The Great Flood! |
No, not that bible fable stuff.
About a week ago, we on the Gulf Coast (Louisiana, Mississippi, Talabama,
and FloriDUH! all got hammered. Pensacola got almost as much rain in 12
hours as Hurricane Ivan dumped on us. My little storage cellar had several
pounds of leaves in it after the hurricane, but was pretty much bone-dry
even though I'd left the doors open. After last week's marathon, I found
maybe 4 inches of water in there (but my kayak was bone-dry).
I immediately started thinking out how I was going to get the water out of
there with the least effort, and settled on a small bilge pump, 10 feet of
hose, and an old computer power supply. Didn't build it right away, though.
Yesterday, we saw another big-***** storm system. Around 7 p.m. the rain was
coming down by the bathtub load (no paltry bucket-loads, here). Rained
pretty much all night, but the heaviest downpour was in the early evening.
I built my little bilge pump this evening and went to get it set up...and
found more than a foot of water in the cellar!
The last time I saw it that deep in there, I was 12 years old (never you
mind how long ago that was) and my father set me to helping him bail it out
with buckets--which is why I wanted to do something more in keeping with my
lazy nature this time around ;p
Is it genius? Is it folly? Will our hero conquer the tides, or merely burn
out a power supply?

I did Shotokan for about eight years. It wasn't bad, very physical. I
prefer Aikido simply because it's a lot more about controlling your
attacker and rendering them helpless, rather than beating the living
snot out of them.

I'll have to dig up the character sheets I used. One character was a
human monk (rolled under original rules, roll 3D6 once per attribute
no modifiers) and the other was a Dwarf Thief.

a brief visit back to civiliz...er...sorry, back to the US. (It's a
JOKE, I like it here!).
Anyway, got my Aussie licence, decided that the best time to drive
backwards was when test driving a car...
No, I didn't hit anyone. But I nearly make Hairy believe in god... :)
