The name 'neo' is not theist or atheist. |
Few people has objection for using nickname 'neo' which is obviously
name of fictional character played by keanu reeves in matrix trilogy.
Of course I like matrix trilogy very much. But basic reason why I like
name 'neo' is that it can't be related to any religion. I have not seen
'neo' name of any christian, muslim, buddhist, hindu etc. And as you
know darwinists or atheists don't have different names which separate
them from all other religions.
In matrix trilogy 'neo' is neither creationist (theist) nor
darwinist(atheist).
Even though neo word has greek origin it is just word which means 'new,
fresh'. I don't think greek people use name 'neo'.
It is always better to use nickname which is name but is not related to
theism or atheism, creationism or darwinism. And of course it does not
sound crazy like 'ye old one', 'create this', 'kermit' etc.
It was necessary to dissociate myself from theism-atheism,
creationism-darwinism and the name 'neo' just do that.
That is why chose it.

I never did bother watching more after the first one.....at first, it
was just that I was too busy with other things, but at this point, I
think I'd have to be seriously in need of entertainment before I do.

I think the Wachowski bros over-reached. After the amazing success of
the first one, which wasn't an original idea, but was brilliantly
executed, they obviously wanted to capitalize on it, but they couldn't
figure out where to go. They did okay, but a lot of people were
disappointed, perhaps with the overblown religious elements and
moralising, and not least of which with the derivative action sequences
in the sequels.
In that same year (1999) there was another movie which I thought was
the equal of the Matrix, called "The Thirteenth Floor":

which is perhaps where the Wachowskis ought to have gone.
This was another in a quick string of movies (Stargate, Independence
day, Godzilla) from producer Roland Emmerich, but I think it was a bit
too understated for many people and it didn't do well because of
unfortunate comparisons with the Matrix.
That must have been the era for this kind of movie. That same year,
another virtual reality movie (Existenz) was released, and the year
before had seen "Dark City" - not quite the same thing but close.

Neo means new or recent. It is also an anagram of "one", which is why

There are no "Darwinists" - the name is meaningless. There are those
who accept the Theory of Evolution, which is the only scientific theory
which explains the *fact* of evolution, and those who reject it for no
reason other than their religious beliefs.
However, the Theory of Evolution has been put together and bolstered by
people of all faiths and all nations. It is not, never has been, and
never will be an "atheist belief".
The fact that you appear not to grasp this has destroyed the
credibility of whatever point it is you think you're making here.

Dawinism - isnt a religion and neither is atheism.
In matrix trilogy 'neo' is neither creationist (theist) nor
darwinist(atheist).
You don't have to be an atheist to be a "dawinist" - you just have to
understand how to reason about evidence.
Many christians "believe" in the truth of evoloution.
I put "believe" in scare quotes as belief is not necessary to
understanding science - at least not belief in the religious sense.
