Really? I thought theism, which is to say a belief in a Deity who has
a personal interest in *you* was about as close to narcissm as one
could get.

Actually it's quite the reverse. To acknowledge the existance of God
is to acknowledge our smallness and powerlessness without Him.
The atheist, of course, has replaced God with Self. The atheist, by
that willful disbelief seeks to make Himself into God.

your god is an egomaniac. Why would someone you believe to be so great and
powerful demand worship and demand it in a specific way? Surely their
concern should be for things not quite so selfish

But all things are possible with God are they not? Is the belief that
God gives to his followers and answers prayers not an attempt to give
yourself the power of God?
Did God not give you and others of your monobarimin dominion over all
the earth? Sounds like power hunger to me.
Is man not the entire reason for the creation of all we behold? Are we
not more important than all other physical beings? How can you view this
as humility?
You are like the little man with a extremely large friend who goes into
a bar looking for a fight knowing that his friend will take care of him.
Is this not arrogance?

The atheist, of course, has replaced God with Self. The atheist, by
that willful disbelief seeks to make Himself into God.

So by telling ourselves we are nothing but Apes and should rightly be
called Pan sapiens instead of Homo sapiens we are elevating ourselves?
By realizing we will truly die and not go to some just reward after
death and that we must do for ourselves and others *now* means that we
believe ourselves godlike? Gods don't die.
By believing we are a tiny insignificant biological 'accident' on a tiny
insignificant planet in a tiny insignificant galaxy we are equating
ourselves with god? We know we are meaningless and powerless in the
cosmos.
You have obviously read some Website that you felt gave you enough
evidence to prove your narrow misguided definition of atheists to come
and share your new found wisdom to those very atheists.

Who, or what, is Anne Robinson?

She started off in TV as an interviewer of polititians but was so
combative never giving here interviwees a chance to answer
that viewers got annoyed and the arrogant woman was removed
She came back as a host of a quiz show called "The weakest link".
Each round she asks a series of questions and at the end the
contestants vote for the weakest link who is removed. Her abrupt and
dismissive catch phrase "You are the weakest link - goodbye" has now
got somewhat tired but for a while it was a popular phrase used by
people.
I believe it was tried out on US TV but was a flop.

thing is put in its place.

The opposite of THEISM is NARCISISM

Really? I thought theism, which is to say a belief in a Deity who has
a personal interest in *you* was about as close to narcissm as one
could get.

:The atheist, of course, has replaced God with Self.

Not always; I haven't replaced a god with anything in my mind.

You have replaced God with yourself

No. If he did that he wouldn't exist.

For him, God does not exist...because HE wants to be God.

PPssssssst let you into a little secret ....there is no god. it is
impossible to want to be god because there is no such thing. FInd me
someone who wants to be worshipped by an entire planet on a daily basis,
who claims to be omnipotent and omniprescent and I'll show you someone who's
escaped from the local nut house.
Atheists don't claim to be your non existant deity, and frankly you're
making yourself sound a little mentally unbalanced ( or at the very least
stupid) by suggestion to the contrary.

This line of arguing always puzzles me. Atheists say we don't believe in
god(s) but really athesists DO believe deep down, we're just trying hide the
fact that we really want to BE god(s).
- Why would we hide it? If there is a god(s), then they can read my mind
anyway.
- I can see trying to hide the aspiration to be god from other
people...there is the danger that you would be labelled insane otherwise. So
maybe the real issue is whether or not atheists are insane? Watching theists
try to prove atheists are insane would have a certain entertainment value,
but it would be more like giving a five year old the keys to the new
Porsche.
- I would accept the position of god only under certain conditions. I like
the immortality and the adoration stuff, I expect the pay is good, it might
be a good way to meet women, but I wouldn't want to be all-knowing. Can you
imagine living for an eternity knowing everything that is going to happen?
Boring! And some of the stuff you would have to be aware of...ewwwwww.
No, I think it is the theists who aspire to be god, and for the most part I
see christians vying with each other to see who can be the most Christ-like.
The blustering theists who enter this news group seem like THEY want to be
worshipped using god as their medium.

Actually it's quite the reverse. To acknowledge the existance of God
is to acknowledge our smallness and powerlessness without Him.

The atheist, of course, has replaced God with Self. The atheist, by
that willful disbelief seeks to make Himself into God.
