Arab Gulf state bans Gibson film
The Arab Gulf state of Bahrain has banned Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of
the Christ, describing it as anti-Islam.
However, other Gulf states are allowing the film to be shown.
Bahrain's Information Ministry says The Passion of the Christ has been
banned because it is contrary to Islamic Sharia law which forbids any
depiction of the prophets.
While Muslims do not regard Jesus Christ as the son of God, they do revere
him as a prophet.
Kuwait is also considering banning the film.
But other Arab states such as Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are
allowing cinemas to show the movie.
Even before its release, The Passion of the Christ was accused by some
Jewish groups of helping to fuel anti-Semitism.
