The Pope is still dead. |
At least that is what I keep hearing over and over and over...
I'm not going to be able to watch any news until June.

Is Terri Schiavo still dead, too?

yeah, following in the footsteps of Princess Diana, neither of them have
got better, though at least over here, the news shut up about Terri once
she died

Terri Who?
(Actually, I'm kind of shocked that Terri was cast aside so quickly. I
was sure that she'd be in the news for at least another week or two. I
guess I was right when I predicted that Terri would be out of the
lexicon by July. I just didn't think it would happen this fast.)

About the same happened when Elvis Presley died. For two fucking weeks
the radio had nothing but Elvis songs. :-(
Btw.: why are they going to bury the pope under a giant marble statue
of 12 tons, on a 4x4 meter platform?
Cause they are petrified he'll crawl out of his tomb!

I've almost completely stopped watching news, starting about 5 years ago. My
TV broke down just over two years ago, so if actually want to watch anything
I have to stare at my old orange phosphor monitor from my Commodore 64 - I
plug it into my VCR. I listen to classical music all the time, so the only
breaking news I have to contend with is things like the death of Renata
Tebaldi and Robert Merrill, or Ricardo Muti's resignation - you know, the
really important things in life. Ok, they did announce the Pope's death
during a Rosenkavelier intermission, but the opera continued.
Maybe someone should start a support group - TVNA - TV News Anonymous. Life
is quite pleasant without that waste of time known as broadcast news.

The news is in fact extremely depressing.

I mostly find it banal and trite. In a few minutes on the internet, I can
get as much news as it takes a 1/2 hour of a TV newscast. And I can listen
to Mahler at the same time.
