Object: The Religious Right's Era Is Over
As I have traveled around the country, one line in my speeches always
draws cheers: "The monologue of the Religious Right is over, and a new
dialogue has now begun." We have now entered the post-Religious Right
era. Though religion has had a negative image in the last few decades,
the years ahead may be shaped by a dynamic and more progressive faith
that will make needed social change more possible.

Good.

First it was the Moral Majority (which was neither), then it was the
Christian Coalition, then it was the Religious Right. I'm probably
missing a couple. They generally change their name every couple of
years when one of their leaders is caught doing something very immoral
or criminal. It's pretty much the same group of Christian fascists.
I'm sure they will come up with another catchy name just in time for the
next election.

Hey! I came up with that back in '02! However, I tend to use it as a
singular description, as in "christian talibaner," to wit:
"Jerry Falwell is a corrupt christian talibaner."

The Christian Crusaders [another catchy name]
With a daily message and a reading from the Bible
Example:
DT 20:16 "In the cities of the nations the Lord is giving you as an
inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes."
The West must march to the defense of the East. All should go, rich
and poor alike. The Americans must put a stop to the Muslim infidels.
Let them go against these Arab barbarians in battle and fight a
righteous war.
God himself will lead them, for they will be doing His work. There
will be absolution and remission of sins for all who die in the
service of Christ. Here they are poor and miserable sinners; there
they will be rich and happy. Let none hesitate; they must march
together now. Deus vult! (God wills it)
"Vote Republican."

You might want to begin at verse 1 instead of simply reading verse 16
out of context. It just might put things in a different perspective.
And don't forget chapter 1 verse 1. It prepares you for the entire
book.
(Deu 1:1) These are the words which Moses said to all Israel on the
far side of Jordan, in the waste land in the Arabah opposite Suph,
between Paran on the one side, and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and
Dizahab on the other.

Why on earth should we base our politics on the Bibles?
The Bibles are nothing more than books of myths, fables, contradictions,
human and animal sacrifices, genocide, slaveholding, misogyny, destruction,
barbarisms, and impossible tales. They are not accurate history and
certainly are not the words of any god unless he is an insane and totally
untrustworthy monster. They are not even good fiction.
The Bibles are a foundation of quicksand. There are NO ORIGINALS in
existence. Why would not any 'real' God protect the originals??? What are
available are altered copies of copies by unknown men of questionable
veracity. The books of the Bibles were written over 1,000 years before the
invention of the printing press. Even the so called originals were
supposedly written by 56 or more different authors of unknown veracity. They
are biased by, and dependent on the writings and opinions of the clergy. And
the status and survival of the clergy is totally dependent on their follower's
belief in their Bible stories. There are 18 different English versions alone
and there is no way of knowing how far they have wondered from the
originals.
And there is no evidence that even the originals are anything more than pure
fiction.
