Object: The Tonight Show and NBC Snub and Mistreat Mr Gastrich (was: some other thread)
I'd almost forgotten about this bit of entertainment, from the days of
Jason's 2003 California gubernatorial run:
http://jasongastrich.com/press39.htm
My favorite whine:
"It's despicable of The Tonight Show and NBC to do a 180 degree turn,
withdraw the invitation, act like it was never made, pass me around
from impotent employee to impotent employee, and disallow me to come."
I don't know, maybe it's the medications I'm on, but the idea that
"impotent employee to impotent employee" "disallow[ed]" Jason "to come"
struck me as uproariously funny.

I heard a rumor that Jason was bumped by Carrot Top's acceptance to
appear that evening. They didn't need more that one comedian.

The Tonight Show has a whole staff of impotent employees for just such
reasons so that Jay Leno doesn't need to deal with disgruntled
non-guests calling to demand that they get to appear.

And of course, Carrot Top *is* "Dr." Jason's intellectual superior.
Carrots too.

Not really. Can you? I think the yellow one with the red lettering
says "Fat", but for the most part, the books look rather thin.
Probably a small collection of his old school books and self-help
paperbacks.

Just looks like a collection of unrelated volumes thrown on a cheap,
Wal-Mart bookshelf and intended to serve as window dressing. I can
make out something that says "fat" on the second shelf - probably some
sort of fad diet book or pop psychology book - and an archaeology book
on the first shelf.
Either he's very disorganized or it's a staged backdrop.
If the former, well, that's not surprising. If the latter, that's not
so bad by itself. One can get a professional portrait done in front of
a backdrop of bookshelves - "it's an effect," I'm told - but Jason
probably couldn't afford that.

The term for this in America is "books-by-the-yard".
Book dealers buy and sell second hand books and there
is a big trade in books-by-the-yard for interior decoraters.
You have a new house, empty bookshelves, the decorator fills
these with book-by-the-yard. There are varying grades.
Hard bound Reader's Digest anthology's are popular on
the lower end. Leather bound great classics are popular
at the upper end of the scale.
Really rich people get large assortments of old and flashy
looking books they never read.
I have in the past bought old history books and such
that the pages had never been opened, many old books
would have pages still uncut, you'd have to use a letter
opener to cut along the edges so you could open the pages
to read them.
I have bought hundred year old books that thus had
never been read, but they looked impressive on some
numbskulls bookshelf.

Indeed. I have a 1850 version of "A History of England" by MacAuly, and

Ah, well, I didn't see that one.

I am confident that a majority of women would agree Gastrich is not

ugly, at

least in this photo.

No, of course not, but that wasn't really my point.
Personally, I've been on lots and lots of journeys and it would never
occur to me to take a picture of myself.
Then again, I AM ugly, so there you have it.

Ugly is as ugly does. If your above statement is correct, count me

Of course, I prefer an intelligent man so there you are.

You didn't win any converts with prayer yet.
This shows us bible claims of miracle working abilities
are false. By proving that with your stunt, you lose.
That is why I love these "I will pray for you" stunts.
No you didn't win, unless derisive laughter is winning.

Mark 11:23-4
For verily I say this unto you, That
whosoever shall say unto this mountain,
Be thou removed, and be thou cast
into the sea; and shall not doubt
in his heart, but shall believe that
those things which he saith shall
come to pass; he shall have whatsoever
he saith.
Therefore I say unto you, What things
soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe
ye recieve them and ye shall have them.
Matthew 18:19-20
Again I say unto you, that if two
of you shall agree on earth as
touching anything that they shall
ask, it shall be done for them of
my father which is in heaven.
For where two or three are gathered
in my name, there I am in the midst
of them.
Matthew 21:22
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask
in prayer, believeing, ye shall recieve.
John 14:12-14
12: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that
believeth on me, the works that I do shall he
do also; and greater works than these shall
he do;because I go unto my Father.
13: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name,
that will I do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
14: If ye shall ask any thing in my name,
I will do it.

He seemed quite serious. The "press release" to which I provided a
link indicates that he was quite put off by the "snub" by NBC and some
of the other comments he made here and there would support that, too.
I mentioned elsewhere that I did have occasion to interview a few who
have dealt with Jason directly and know him personally. Someone else
here posted about his narcissistic personality, and that's apparently a
common perception.
