I have to disagree, and point you both towards "The Big Lie"
strategy.

"The Big Lie" is sometimes misunderstood as "If you tell
a lie big enough people will believe it," but that couldn't be
more wrong. In reality, it is understood that people WILL NOT
believe the lie. What people will do is instantly recognize
that the lie is a lie, but they will assume that there has to
be SOMETHING behind it... however small, some grain
of reality that it is based on. Which, of course, is the whole
reason of making the "Big Lie" as big as you can.

mAnn Coulter is an extremely useful propagandist for the
luntic right, precisely because her lies are so whopping
huge & obvious.

The modern misunderstanding of the "Big Lie" stems from
people defaulting to its definition/effect as described by
those who most famously used it: The Nazis.

Hitler had instincts, yes, but he had the brains of an
advocado. He knew when something worked, but he
didn't have near enough the brains it would take to
understand why. The same was true for just about all of
his underlings.
