Amnesty Intl. Names U.S. Top Human Rights Offender

The new Amnesty International human rights report lists the United States
as a top offender.
The annual report issued Wednesday says the U.S. military's Guantanamo Bay
prison in Cuba for suspected militants has become "the gulag of our time."
The human rights group acknowledges the provocation of such terrorist acts
as hostage beheadings in Iraq, but says instead of setting a high standard
for the world to follow, the United States has diluted what's supposed to
be an absolute ban on torture. It says the United States has developed such
euphemisms as "environmental manipulation, stress positions and sensory
manipulation."
The Bush administration has yet to react specifically to the Amnesty
International report, although a Pentagon spokesman said the United States
treats prisoners humanely and continues to be a leader in human rights.
The report also singles out human rights violations in places like Sudan,
Zimbabwe and Haiti. And it says Afghanistan is again being shaken by a
downward spiral of lawlessness and instability.
The report faults both Israel and the Palestinians.
It says Israeli soldiers trying to halt Palestinian attacks have carried
out war crimes and crimes against humanity. It says Israel has carried out
unlawful killings, torture and destruction of property and interfered with
medical help.
But Amnesty International also accuses armed Palestinian groups of crimes
against humanity. It singles out the deliberate targeting of civilians.
The report says Israeli forces killed more than 700 Palestinians last year,
including 150 children. It says Palestinian groups killed 109 Israelis in
2004, including eight children.
An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman said the report seems "a very
one-sided comment."

What do you expect from propagandists who come up with other false
euphanisms as "Clear Skies" act, protects polluters ... "Family Values" that
allows lies corruption and power hungry greed............."Homeland
Security", that does nothing to make us more secure, and spends billions of
dollars pretending to do it and a "christian" republican congress that is
more interested in gaining absolute power than it is in insuring the
democracy.

That really isn't fair. I am sure there are worse offenders. They
just gave us the prize because they were more disappointed in us. It's
like giving an F to the C student because the teacher "knew" he should
have made an A. They shouldn't include their expectations in the
figuring.
