There's a 4th explanation he didn't mention - the only universe we
could find ourselves in is one that support life - the "puddle in the
hole" argument. The hole is NOT shaped to fit the puddle, yet Davies
is intent on finding out why it is. I doubt that he, or anyone, will.

I serioously doubt any theory in which the present can influence the
past.
In my opinion the present only influence the way in wich we interpret
the past.
Indeed the past as it was may be very different from the past as we
see it.
Most see a big bang in the past,m but there might not have been one.
It just our backward reasoning that created the big bang theory,
so the past big bang exist now (in our scientific mind),
but it might not have existed before we thought of it.
In essence the big bang is a spirtual thing,
It's only the redshift and the background radiation that are physical,
the rest is theory.
Beside the three possibilities presented there is a fourth one
Sheer luck!
There might not ne mulitple universes and the constants of nature
might have been different and there might have been nothing to guide
them,
but it still happened that life was possible.
(That - I think - is Richard Dawkins point of view)
Anyway I am still not sure that the universe is very bio-friendly
I still await any signs of life on other planets
We stll might be alone . . .
