Microbes overcome natural antibiotic

Michael Zasloff, a professor at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. In a
prominent article in 2002 he said that the development of resistance to drugs
based on antimicrobial compounds was "improbable"
But now Zasloff has changed his mind.
Face-off
After the release of his 2002 article, Zasloff was challenged to a scientific
duel by evolutionary biologist Graham Bell at McGill University in Montreal.
Bell argued that under certain conditions bacteria could evolve resistance to an
antimicrobial peptide. He dared Zasloff to test the theory with him, and Zasloff
accepted the challenge.

Ben

Lest anyone think that Georgetown professors are creationists, we
should be clear that there is nothing to suggest that Zasloff ever
doubted evolution. He merely doubted that bacteria could evolve in
this way. He was proven wrong and like any rational scientist (or
even any rational human being), he now admits it.
Still the point is valid. Evolution can accomplish things that even
bona fide experts think is improbable.
