And this makes Sowell an atheist? I saw this quote on the positiveatheism
website, but it also listed a professor at a Baptist seminary.
And the quote itself is not particularly atheistic, as even Jesus said "By
their fruits shall ye know them.".

Hmmm.... my source differed. I yield.

I've pulled from a dozen sourses, but I think I got carried away, trying
to continue the series longer than my time for research would allow. I
did check each person with second source to see if the quote seemed to
match their overall beliefs.

"I am not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only
maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold
that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief is
positively harmful. Reviewing the false claims of religion, I do not
wish, as some sentimental materialists affect to wish, that they were
true. I do not envy believers their faith. I am relieved to think that
the whole story is a sinister fairy tale; life would be miserable if what
the faithful affirmed was actually the case."

Sowell may be an atheist, but he's politically way too far to the
right to be rational most of the time.

Actually I think he is rational most of the time.
What I can't figure out is why he does lean so far right in some of
his opinions.
He can say one thing that is really brilliant but then a paragraph
over say something that sends the head spinning.
Oh yeah, and I don't think he's an atheist...he just doesn't make a
big deal out of religion one way or the other.
