To me it's a catch 22 - religion and its followers have done a lot of |
Same with atheists of China, Russia and many more..lots of hatred and
killing ... so atheists are no dream boats either.
Just judge on what is and not so much on what once was.
People change.

Except for my nephew to be born in September. Okay, he's not an "oops"

But even that is--in a great many cases--a choice of not availing oneself
of the many profylactic options or not using them properly.
Such as the recent "oops" with my SIL's daughter was she stopped taking
the pill because she was gaining weight or some such. That's not really an
"oops, that's a "what were you thinking exactly?"
(But it turned out pretty decent. She's still quite young and had to move
back home but has gone from being a rather, ahem, "wild" teen to doting
and responsible mother. And the kid is growing like a weed. Also, she has
the advantage that her mom is from a rather old style Latin family and
there's a whole army of aunts to help out. There's much to be said for
that "extended family" thing. <G>)
Hey, I was so much of an oops, they had to give me away! ;)

Yah but, that's a big part of how you got to be you instead of somebody
else and what would we do without our witchypoo?
I remind myself of that when I think about how crappy and loony toons my
family is. If things had been different, this "I" wouldn't exist. So I'm
ambivalent as I wouldn't be here. The other guy who would be around might
be all kinds of better adjusted and such but it wouldn't do *me any good...

Aw gee, well, I guess when you put it that way :)
Don't mind me, I'm just stressed out. George has been in Texas for a couple

Erin and I do not (no offense, dear. I just REALLY hate hot weather). My
mom's driving me nuts, I'm resentful that I'm stuck dealing with her, etc.,
etc.

Oh come on. It's not *that bad. Despite what people think, we're *not

By the way, it is a *hell of a lot cheaper to live down here than up

I'm well aware of that. However, I remember what it was like living in
Florida. You know, it's a gorgeous day outside and you can't leave the air
conditioning because it's too fucking hot? I didn't quit my bad habits and
get all healthy to be stuck inside the house all day.
I don't mind a couple of days of that here and there - That's to be
expected. But MONTHS of it? I don't like it when it gets into the 80s, much
less higher. I'll be miserable and it will make me depressed. Been there,
done that. One of the happiest days of my life was the day I left Florida.
I'm very happy where I am, thankyouverymuch.
By the way, it is a *hell of a lot cheaper to live down here than up

You don't have mountains either ;)
Oh, and because of lower cost of living, George will probably get offered a
LOWER salary. So far, the ONLY benefit I see for me is a bigger/nicer
house - which, I don't need or even particularly want. And since my mom
refuses to even consider moving, it's really not worth discussing anyway. I
absolutely hate being stuck dealing with her, but there's no one else and I
can't leave her behind.

They're here - but they're out west (and southwest), which will be about four
hundred miles away. (Of course, the Colorado cuts through some rocks upstream
from downtown Austin, and there's an impressive view from the top of
Mt. Bonnell, if you don't mind climbing the 99 steps. ;-)

By the way, it is a *hell of a lot cheaper to live down here than up
over where you are. You know we don't have an income tax right?
You don't have mountains either ;)
They're here - but they're out west (and southwest), which will be about
four hundred miles away. (Of course, the Colorado cuts through some
rocks upstream from downtown Austin, and there's an impressive view from
the top of Mt. Bonnell, if you don't mind climbing the 99 steps. ;-)
"Mt." Bonnell? The only mountainous thing about that is the name.
I tried for a year to like Austin. I promised a friend that every
weekend we would find something else interesting to do. I kept that
promise right up to the time the friend moved away. Not too many months
thereafter I was back out here. Ocean, sea breezes, mountains, moderate
temperatures year-round, what's not to like?

It's no Everest, but it'll do for central Texas.

I've been out west twice - visits to Long Beach (and Los Angeles) in 1999 and
2000 - and Dale and I managed to pick the weekend when I-5 up at the Grapevine
was closed because of snow. (2000 was more normal.) Even though I'm native
to the Appalachians, I've gotten used to living on the flat plain that
occupies about 10% of Texas.

Hey, we have stars! Sure, they blink and move around, but they're still
lights in the sky!
As far as the New Agers, they're just harmless loons. We keep 'em around
for the tourists. :-)
I'll give you traffic. That, we got too much of. On the other hand, we
have very few Texas drivers. ;-)
And yeah, the earth moves from time to time. You guys have tornadoes,
though. And, um, Texans.

Hey, we have stars! Sure, they blink and move around, but they're still
lights in the sky!
Well, I guess you *can say you have stars landing at LAX.
As far as the New Agers, they're just harmless loons. We keep 'em around
for the tourists. :-)
Harmless loons my *****. You've obviously never gotten death threats and
been stalked by them.
(I don't know I've ever told you that story. Maybe another day.)
I'll give you traffic. That, we got too much of. On the other hand, we
have very few Texas drivers. ;-)
After having survived New Orleans drivers, I just can't work up much
irritation at Texas drivers. At least not once you get West of the
Houston/Dallas area. Oddly enough, the further West you go in Texas, the
better the drivers. Go figure.
Though don't get me started on Houston.
Still, I know, having lived in LA recently, it's gotten a *lot worse. Was
it '82 that time I went to see Brent out in Pasadena? I was actually
stunned at how good the drivers were. Then we all moved there in '85
wasn't it? Still strikingly good drivers.
But in '98, when I returned, oh boy things had changed. I'd rank the
current crop as not better than Austin drivers and well on their way to
Houston levels.
But not New Orleans levels, everybody would be dead in about a week if
that happened. I don't know if you've ever driven in New Orleans
(pre-Katrina, I don't know how it's become since half the population is
gone) but I'll put it this way...
I've driven in TJ. I felt *safer driving in TJ.
And yeah, the earth moves from time to time. You guys have tornadoes,
though. And, um, Texans.
Tornadoes? We don't even get thunderstorms.
This is curious little county. The really nasty, vicious fronts always
stretch from San Antonio up through Austin and into the "hill country". We
get rain. I don't know what it is but the worst thing that's happened so
far is it tends to be windy and pine cones and small branches bounce off
the roof sometimes.
My brother's lived here for *years now and says the really violent storms
they see in Austin pretty much always slide right past us. Normal
thunderstorms in New Orleans were tens of times more noisy and violent
than anything I've seen here. Even that last one that was spawning
tornadoes up north and flooding Austin, we got... rain. With muted
rumbings and some vague flashes of light.
Having been through Katrina and Rita (and Cindy which at first they called
a tropical storm but then upgraded to Cat 1 hurricane... now *that was a
thunderstorm let-me-tell-you), I'm quite happy to have found a place where
the vicious weather visits the city but leaves us pretty much alone...

But not because unexpected kids aren't happening. These days it seems
the attitude of the surprised mother seems to be "whatever". In some
circles knowing who the father of your child is, is considered weird,
at the very least. Most kids today wouldn't understand "A Summer

they even say "knocked up" any more?)
