To the Card Carriers |
First off, I don't want to make this too long...
Our society is one of distractions and excesses. It is the "Tree of
Knowledge" in our Age.
Man, through the ages has been inquisitive and logical...we don't have
the corner on that ability.
To say you are an atheist...puts you at the end of the same road you
say believers are...with no way to look back with an open mind.

"Open minded" has been highjacked from the hippie/newagey
types. It sounds nice but really, often doesn't mean anything...like
a
lot of theists favored phrases. Open mind should mean "I'm willing to
hear opinions and evidence contrary to my own because I'm not firmly
convinced." perhaps, as it was in the seventies and early eighties,
it
could mean "I'm not going to condem people for having differing
opinions, because it would be impolite" but now open minded means
"I'm
going to dress up in the clothes of tolerance so that I can convince
you of how wrong you are for paying attention to hard facts"

I am an atheist. Why? I see no reason to believe the claims of theists.
That's not closed minded, it's rational. Now stop telling people what they
believe.

Oh, I have an open mind, but I require proof of claims; proof that can
be tested and verified.
My late Irish grandmother thrilled me with tales of the Good Folk and
the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. She learned these stories from her
grandmother, who really believed in fairies and their powers.
Do you have an open mind about fairies?

A very strange metaphor. What on Earth do you mean by it?
Man, through the ages has been inquisitive and logical...we don't have
the corner on that ability.
Again, what, exactly, is this supposed to mean? The words are English,
but the sentence doesn't scan.
To say you are an atheist...puts you at the end of the same road you
say believers are...with no way to look back with an open mind.
As Carl Sagan liked to put it, "keep an open mind, but not so open
that your brain falls out". As he also liked to say, claims require
evidence. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Got *any* evidence for any kind of God?
I thought not.

Atheists can "look back with an open mind". They merely see no reason to do
so after having walked that road, examining it closely, and finding it's a
dead end.
