I don't know, NS is supposed to be a chance event. and we all know how
faulty the thibnking of 23 yr old driver can be. It was not the first
time he drove in this fashion...

and is "deselected" from breeding
That 7 year old girl who was flying across america a few years back with her
father and trainer - that was NS... her father & trainer were faulty in
thinking his girl was any different from other 7 year olds. He was wrong,

all - They don't get to pass their genes on the the next generation and the
daughter who carried the faulty genes of her father was irradicated.
It follows that parents who prevent their 7 year olds doing daft things
preserve not only their kids but (if they are with them at the time)
themselves - good geenes, good thinking - no irradication.
This is why their are age limits on what kids can do... driving at 13 is
another... We often hear that joy-riders of 14 or 15 have stolen a car then
they crash it killing themselves and their friends who were stupid enough to

In this case I would agree with you. Anyone who knowingly does something
dangerous even if they don't think it so but the concensus does, is a
potential candidate for NS. Shame the passengers dont get to see a driver's
record as the train pulls into the station - maybe the drivers should all
wear McDonald's stylee badges with stars on :o)
The twist with NS is that calculated risk taking is a main driver in
evolution - try something new, survive, become better adapted for whatever
environment you live in, pass on the methods to your offspring. Taking the
first fish to become amphibians; they found the land environment devoid of
danger and possibly to evade their predators, spent increasingly longer and
longer periods out of the water - a potentially dangerous thing for a water
breathing animal to do that ultimately paid dividends. The predators, say,
sharks, remain un-evolved because nothing drives them to change. Had all the
fish got out of the water, it is highly likely a few individual sharks would
have seen their prey leaving the water and attempted to follow them, not
starved to death and then passed their new behaviour on to their offspring -
perhaps this was the driver for some land carnivores (not specifically
sharks as the progenitor, that was just an illustration) came from - I think
especially likely for the ancient reptile & amphibians that existed before
the first true dinosaurs appeared on the scene.
Interesting debate - certainly fires the imagination.

I wonder if you can include the passengers in this as well. The cars of
the train were packed beyond capacity. Me personally would never step
in an overcrowded elevator, or trained, being raised in NYC, where con

once again, it is local necessity... maybe these cows (whales nearest
relations I think?) just foriged more and more in the water - I wonder where
hippos will be in a million years (prolly all dead at man's hands) as they
are unquestionable land animals not exhibiting hardly any aquatic
characteristics. and yet they are now at a stage that they perish rapidly if
they cannot get in the water... combination of over-heating and their own
weight crushing their leg joints.

occasion they made a fatal mistake... NS or ***** luck? As the accident was
something out of the ordinary, I favour bad circumstance. The pax in the
rear cars were subject to the same forces and survived... Funny thing is,
