Exodus 32
27 Then he said to them, "This is what the LORD , the God of Israel, says:
'Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from
one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.' " 28
The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the
people died. 29 Then Moses said, "You have been set apart to the LORD today,
for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this
day."
G-d Loves you.

=======================
"I cannot conceive of a personal God who would directly influence the actions
of individuals, or would directly sit in judgment on creatures of his own
creation. I cannot do this in spite of the fact that mechanistic causality has,
to a certain extent, been placed in doubt by modern science.
On 17 July I953 a woman who was a licensed Baptist pastor sent Einstein in
Princeton a warmly appreciative evangelical letter. Quoting several passages
from the scriptures, she asked him whether he had considered the relationship
of his immortal soul to its Creator, and asked whether he felt assurance of
ever lasting life with God after death. It is not known whether a reply was
sent, but the letter is in the Einstein Archives, and on it, in Einstein's hand
writing, is the following sentence, written in English:
I do not believe in immortality of the individual, and I consider ethics to be
an exclusively human concern with no superhuman authority behind it.
I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have
expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then
it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our
science can reveal it.
--- Albert Einstein
But what does that dummy know?
"Go Moses Go."
Numbers 31

31:1 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
31:2 Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be
gathered unto thy people.
31:3 And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm ye men from among you for the
war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Jehovah's vengeance on Midian.
31:4 Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye
send to the war.
31:5 So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of
every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
31:6 And Moses sent them, a thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and
Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the
sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.
31:7 And they warred against Midian, as Jehovah commanded Moses; and they slew
every male.
31:8 And they slew the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, and
Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian: Balaam also the
son of Beor they slew with the sword.
31:9 And the children of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their
little ones; and all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods,
they took for a prey.
31:10 And all their cities in the places wherein they dwelt, and all their
encampments, they burnt with fire.
31:11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of man and of beast.
31:12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses,
and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of
Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at
Jericho.
31:13 And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the
congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
31:14 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, the captains of
thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.
31:15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
31:16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to commit trespass against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and so the
plague was among the congregation of Jehovah.
31:17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman
that hath known man by lying with him.
31:18 But all the women-children, that have not known man by lying with him,
keep alive for yourselves.
"The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want....."
I'm off to Midian.

I'm saying that posts that are nothing but bible verses, or that
rely solely on "it's in the bible" as argumentation, are not worth
posting here, and are counter to the FAQ of the group.
You've walked into a group discussion area, have the decency & good
manners to take a moment to find out what behaviour is considered
acceptable. Would you be impressed with someone walking into your
church and shouting "Tomatoes! Tomatoes! Luverly Tomatoes! Only
adollar-nin'y-nine akilo! Bewdiful!"?
No doubt you have the sense to visit a grocer when you want
tomatoes; please, at least assume we have the gumption to look for
a Xian newsgroup if we want to discuss your religion.
If you want us to point and laugh, proceed as you are.
e.g. hearing your justification for altering "God" to "G-d" might
be amusing.

=========================
Q: Why do you type G-d instead of God?
A: In Deuteronomy 12:2-4, we read:
"You must destroy all the sites at which the nations you are to dispossess
worshiped their gods, whether on lofty mountains and on hills or under any
luxuriant tree. Tear down their altars, smash their pillars, put their sacred
posts to the fire, and cut down the images
of their gods, obliterating their name from that site. Do not do the same thing
to Adonai your God."
From these verses, the rabbis in the Talmud understood that the names
of God may not be erased or obliterated, as the Israelites were commanded to do
with the names of idolatrous gods. This prohibition encompasses seven Biblical
names for God: Yod/Heh/Vav/Hey, Adonai, El, Eloah, Elohim, Shadai, and Tzevaot.
Just as God is kadosh, holy, so too these names of God, representations of God,
are kadosh.
Any piece of paper, parchment, stone, wood, or any other material with one of
these names for God written on it in Hebrew becomes holy. We are forbidden to
erase it, burn it, crumple it, throw it in the garbage, etc., for destroying it
is very disrespectful of God, akin to destroying God. The only respectful way
of disposing of names of God is to bury them the way we would bury a human
being (also an image of God) who has died. Because of this, some people are
careful not to write out God or a name for God in English, so they write the
name incompletely.

However, since the Torahs language is Hebrew, and the mitzvah
(commandment) concerning destroying the names of false gods and
preserving the name of our God is in Hebrew, the prohibition against
erasing Gods name only applies to these seven names written in Hebrew.
Therefore, it is not necessary to write G-d for God, L-rd for Lord,
Ad-nai for Adonai, etc. But when writing in Hebrew, these names should
not be spelled out completely.
