Patrick Wintour, chief political correspondent | Wednesday September

told by Peter Hain that [British Prime Minister Tony Blair] is hoping

November. Mr Hain, who sits in the cabinet as Leader of the Commons,
has been in the US... in private discussions with guests... a

"The New Soldier", Kerry suppresses his own book
John Kerry's wrote a book in 1971 titled "The New Soldier." It is out
of print and Senator Kerry will not let it be reprinted.
The book's front cover shows protesters carrying the American flag
upside down, and inside are photos of members of Kerry's group --
Vietnam Veterans Against the War -- with clenched fist salutes and
some of the guys done up to look like Che Guevara.
Also included are photographs of Ramsey Clark, who was a lawyer for
Kerry's group. Clark went to North Vietnam and returned to report that
American prisoners of war were Kerry was not simply part of the
"anti-war" movement of the 1960s. Many of us opposed the Vietnam war
then for a variety of reasons. What Kerry did was accuse Americans
still fighting in Vietnam of widespread atrocities on a daily basis,
atrocities authorized all the way up the chain of command, atrocities
committed for racial reasons, doing
things to the Vietnamese that we would never do to Europeans.
No wonder Kerry doesn't want his 1971 book reprinted during an
election year. It would not fit in with the image he is trying to
create today.

So we got a nation-wide scavenger hunt on, who will first find a copy
of this book and scan it on to the Internet? Then Kerry's negative
views of American soldiers will be out there for more to read.

several places on the web. Even the pictures are included. All FREE.
Just Google "John Kerry The New Soldier".

254:1 Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has been formed to counter the
false "war crimes" charges John Kerry repeatedly made against Vietnam
veterans
http://www.swiftvets.com/
Senator John Kerry has made his 4-month combat tour in Vietnam the
centerpiece of his bid for the Presidency. His campaign jets a handful
of veterans around the country, and trots them out at public
appearances to sing his praises. John Kerry wants us to believe that
these men represent all those he calls his "band of brothers."
But most combat veterans who served with John Kerry in Vietnam see him
in a very different light.
..
Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has been formed to counter the false
"war crimes" charges John Kerry repeatedly made against Vietnam
veterans who served in our units and elsewhere, and to accurately
portray Kerry's brief tour in Vietnam as a junior grade Lieutenant. We
speak from personal experience -- our group includes men who served
beside Kerry in combat as well as his commanders. Though we come from
different backgrounds and hold varying political opinions, we agree on
one thing: John Kerry misrepresented his record and ours in Vietnam
and therefore exhibits serious flaws in character and lacks the
potential to lead. We regret the need to do this. Most Swift boat
veterans would like nothing better than to support one of our own for
America's highest office, regardless of whether he was running as a
Democrat or a Republican. However, Kerry's phony war crimes charges,
his exaggerated claims about his own
service in Vietnam, and his deliberate misrepresentation of the nature
and effectiveness of Swift boat operations compels us to step forward.
For more than thirty years, most Vietnam veterans kept silent as we
were maligned as misfits, addicts, and baby killers. Now that a key
creator of that poisonous image is seeking the Presidency we have
resolved to end our silence.
The time has come to set the record straight.

Really? i counted a few more than one on the podium at Boston.
1) Rassman only served two days on Kerrys boat. He wasn't a Swift
Boat Vet and was only there on temporary assignment.
2) Rev. David Alston only served one or two weeks on Kerrys boat.
They both lied for each other:

Alston did He has since distanced himself from the campaign.
I bet you they both were all expenses paid guests.
3)Max Cleland was nowhere near Kerry. Cleland is a polician with a
vendetta against the republicans. He does have a cushy government
political position. I imagine he looks forward to additional such
jobs with Kerry.
Anyone else up there of note? Frankly, I don't know. Ex members of

Tell us which O'Neill story is the truth.
1971-In the Oval Office tells Nixon that he was in Cambodia.
Actually in the very next sentence of that taped conversation he
corrects himself and says he was working along the border. He claims
he was referring to later after Kerry had exited after only four
months. He also claims that the time he was referring to was when
they were no longer working the rivers in Vietnam but the west
coastline of Cambodia proper.
So the whole "I was in Cambodia" quote is out of context. The
context is more like, I was in Cambodia oops I meant on the coast of
Cambodia.
Later says the only time that he met Nixon was at the 1972 convention.
Don't know anything about that. Seeing how O'Neill has been taken out
of context several times I'd like sources.
In his book says that ne was never in Cambodia.
Really? I don't think so. What page would that be on. I didn't
remember that and I reread the section on Cambodia. I also looked in
the index and followed every reference there to Cambodia back to the
text and found no quote where he says he wasn't in Cambodia. He does
mention that all Kerrys commanders deny ever ordering Kerry into
Cambodia. It also mentions "At least three of the five crewmen on
Kerry's PCF 44 boat-Billl Zaldonis, Steven Hatch, and Steve Gardner -
deny that they or their boat was ever in Cambodia.
Last week-said he was near Cambodia
He was working along the west coast of Cambodia. If you were on in
the Navy an were ordered to say China but never set foot on land and
you were asked "Did you ever go to China?" you might misquote and say
"Yes, I was in China. Wait I meant on the coast of China.".

Informal poll. Which O'Neill story do you believe?
1971- On the White House tapes tells Nixon he was in Cambodia. Later
says that the only time he met Nixon was at the 1972 convention.
This year- His book says he was never in Cambodia.
Last week- Said he was near Cambodia

No, Blair is in the Labour party, not the Liberal Party.

No. The US conservatives changed it. Historically, liberal meant
looking at people as people, eg the Victorian liberals were the mill
owners etc who built model communities around their plant.
That was the root of the British Liberal party, who formed the centre
but were very minor after the emergence of the Labour party (soft left
and Fabian rather than Marxist), with the Conservatives soft right
until Thatcher who moved the political spectrum much further to the
right.
Blair is further to the right than most Conservative Prime Ministers
of my lifetime, eg Edward Heath.
He is neither Liberal in the European sense not the American sense. He
is a conservative who conned his way to the top of the Labour party
and moved it past the Liberals (centre party) to the right.
Thatcher's legacy: she once announced that she wanted there to be two

Tank you, Chris. I realized I had misspoke about Labour Leader after I
posted it.
To us here, Blair does seem like a Liberal. That's why it was so
surprising when his backiing of Bush came to the forefront.
I don't know how the English feel about him (I hear they don't like him so
much anymore, esp since the Gulf War), but I for one love his *****! If I
could I would thank him for being such an ally to the US. There are those
of us who appreciate the English backing us in this.

No. He is a member of the Labour Party. Liberal in Britain does not
have the perjorative meaning it has been redefined with, in the USa.
The Liberals were the centre party, with Labour soft left and
Conservative soft right - until Thatcher moved the Conservatives to
the extreme right, followed by Major.
Blair is to the right of most of the recent Conservative Prime
