Object: TOO MANY GODS
There are thousands of Gods. How do we know which is the 'real'' God and
which are fakes?
How do go about authenticating what God is real?
Why does not the real God directly communicate with us?

Usually your family decide on a religion for you and obviously their god is
the one that is real and true.
It seems you accept what god is (?) How about trying to get a definition. I
hear a different story from almost everyone. How can you decide on
something if there is no agreement on what it is ????

They're all real. The question is: which one is right for you?

If you never have had the experience of God communicating with you,
then it is difficult to believe He talks to anybody.

I lack belief in god anyway, so it's impossible to believe he talks to
anybody. The people I talk to that claim they've communicated with god
just confirm my opinion, since every last one of them is loopy beyond
words.

However, it happens to people all the time. These people are generally

Certified as Saints or not, I think they're either con artists or
they're mad. Have you had any conversations with Mark? He seems like
the latter to me.

You are apparently ignorant of what hearing voices is really like. You
can't imagine up voices, and someone who hears them can't imagine them
away. Even if you insist they are hallucinations, that's not the same
thing as merely "the product of someone's imagination". Voices can

You want to believe that people who hear voices are "doing it to

The phrase "product of someone's imagination" does not mean that the
person is willfully "doing it to themselves." It might not be the most
accurate term to describe a mental illness, but it ain't the kidney
that is producing the voices, it's the brain, and that's where the
imagination sits. The voices are imagined, no matter how real they
seem to the person hearing them (I know firsthand, my brother and
sister are both schizophrenic). Robyn's not being smart or clever (at
least not in some smartass way like you want to think), there's
nothing wrong with what she said.

The language is what it is. I still feel that the connotation of
voices being a part of the self is fundamentally false.

If you say "imagine a unicorn", I can say ok and imagine it. Then if
you say imagine it has antlers like a deer, I can imagine that too, at
will. Voices or hallucinations are not like that, and saying that they
are "product of someone's imagination" implies to me they are under
the sort of control and have the quality of self-ownership that your
imagination normally is and does.

What, you think they originate from outside the person? So the

Ah, I see you don't know what "firsthand" means.

Pedantic twit. I've been there with them while they're hearing voices.
It's not like someone told me they were hearing voices, I saw for
myself. That's firsthand.

Either the voices are manufactured by the hearer or they're real. If

It's impossible to communicate with someone who rejects the need for
precise definitions when talking about semantic issues.
I don't even know how to convey why your experience of voices is not
'first hand'.

It's not what I said now, was it? Here is what I said:
"The voices are imagined, no matter how real they seem to the person

I didn't say I experienced voices firsthand, I said I've experienced
people hearing voices firsthand. That means I can tell you that there
are no voices (I would have heard them, as I was right beside them)
and that the voices are in their imagination. For whatever reason.
Whatever reason means mental illness, drugs, injury. It's still in
their imagination.

Nice try. And nice job of snipping where you said "it is impossible to
communicate with someone who rejects the need for precise definitions
when talking about semantic issues" when the problem is that you are
anally retentive about language.
