Okay, before you go celebrating - keep in mind that rumors like this flew
around on the internet before in 2001. It took Flew awhile to respond to
them saying that he was, in fact, still an atheist, mainly because he's old
and he doesn't use the internet. I have a feeling that, in time, this one
will turn out to be just another rumor too.
Besides, even if it's true and he has become a deist ... that still doesn't
affect evolution in the slightest.

This is raising skepticism to new heights. The link is a verbatim
interview between Flew and a friend in which he explicitly accepts
theism (for weird reasons, but never mind that). And it's not the only
such interview. It's no rumor. It's either multiple conscious forgeries
(very unlikely) or it's real.
Besides, even if it's true and he has become a deist ... that still doesn't
affect evolution in the slightest.
True. Nor would it affect atheism, which is something entirely
different. But Flew's chief spur toward theism seems to be a credulous
reading of Gerald Schroeder's "The science of God". Perhaps when he
finds out more about the criticisms of that book he will change his mind.

ignorance. His "conclusion" is unjustified. Phislosophy is supposed to
be all about rigorous argument so one might have expected a "famous
philosopher" not to make this mistake.

thinks cannot be explained by natural processes, so he plugs the idea of
a deity (not a personal "God" nor the god of any revealed religion) into
the hole created by the lack of an explanation. I guess it's too much
trouble to say "I don't know" and let it go at that.
It just demonstrates something I've always suspected. Most philosophers
hopefully confuse the subjects they are attempting to explain. :-)

But there is no reason to simgle out one of the zillions of
unjustustified things that "might" have done it. It is a non-sequitur
especially as (logically) it plucks out of thin air the deity he
thinks could have done it.
It just demonstrates something I've always suspected. Most philosophers
hopefully confuse the subjects they are attempting to explain. :-)
I've very little time for most philosophers.

Not only is it an argument from ignorance, it's an argument from ignorance
by neglect. He admits he hasn't kept up with the research for five or ten
years...
