PBS showed this amazing documentary last night... Now, about Joe
Simpson: he said he didn't turn to God as he faced the void, but later
during the climb down he said he was looking up at the stars and his
thoughts were a bit different??

Admittingly, I saw this film in the theater several months ago, but I don't
recall any statement about "different thoughts" regarding god. My
recollection is that he stated that as an atheist, he would somethimes
wondered whether he would "turn to god" if he was ever in a life & death
situation. He then stated that he now knew the answer to that, since he
didn't think of god at all during his ordeal on the mountain.
And I second your statement about it being an amazing film.

Damn right. Touching the Void was an excellent film that couldn't have been
made in America without some religious crap being stuck onto it.
The sheer pain that guy went through was horrifying!

Not that I recall. Also, he was on Radio 4 here in the UK a few weeks
ago and repeated that he was an atheist. He said that if he'd believed
in Christianity, he would have given up and died.

LOL! I scanned the message list for a post about that show, didn't see
yours and started a new thread... As soon as I hit "Send" I found your
msg.

I ran it a a local cinema a few months ago, it did quite well, over
half full as I remember, at a time during the summer when most films
were doing badly, some only getting single figures.
It looked quite good from what I could see of it from up in the box,
so I went back a few days later to see it myself.

Huh? I watched this about a week ago and I don't remember him
saying anything about his thoughts on that changing. He was
completely dismissive of any belief in god IIRC.
Is there a transcript somewhere we can check? I googled it
but couldn't find one.
