Town angry about plans to open Bad ***** Coffee
ANTIOCH, Ill.
A businessman who plans to open a coffee shop in the northern Illinois
community of Antioch says the controversy over its name is just a
misunderstanding.
But residents say they're not fooled by claims that "Bad ***** Coffee"
takes its name from the donkeys used to haul beans in Hawaii.
The Antioch village board this week adopted a resolution that condemns
the coffee shop's name as "utterly vulgar," "highly offensive" and
"repugnant to the entire concept of family values."
All that aside, village officials concede they can't do anything to
keep Bad ***** Coffee from opening.
And franchise owner Tony Liotta says he plans to be up and running in
January.
Bad ***** Coffee is a 15-year-old chain based in Salt Lake City.
The Antioch shop will be the first in Illinois.
