Good show. Treats the event as history with no real mention of divinity.
Scholars from Yale, Harvard, De Paul (who says the pilate story is pure
fiction) and a few others.
DePaul is a large Roman Catholic university.
Clears up why, if the incident happened, it was handed over to the Romans.
They were the only ones who could impose death at the time.
Asks why, if the incident in the temple, happened Jesus was not arrested
immediately by temple police or troops from the attached Roman garrison.
Asks why just Christ was executed and not his follows. History records other
similar messiahs who were executed along with hundreds of followers. They
surmised that he did not have a big enough following to be important.
They mentioned the arrest with Judas kissing the man. It made me wonder why,
if as other parts of the gospels say he had such a big following he would
not be recognized.
Points out that there was quite a bit of conflict between the Jews who
believed Christ was a messiah and other Jews at the time the gospels were
written and that this is reflected in the gospels. The later the gospel, the
more the Jews are blamed.
And of course it points out that these are stories written much later than
the events.
Worth watching.
