Tribute to D James Kennedy |
This is just nausea inducing.
The US House of Reps has a bill pending [H. RES. 805] to praise Kennedy,
a preacher who favored Dominionism, pushed the whole "America is a
Christian nation" myth, favored creationism in schools and preached
hatred of homosexuals, among other things.
The reasons for this honor include:
* Whereas in 1962, Dr. Kennedy founded Evangelism Explosion
International, the first Christian organization in history to establish
its ministry in all 211 nations in the world;
* Whereas through the efforts of Evangelism Explosion, nearly 5,000,000
people professed faith in Christ in 2006 alone;
* Whereas Dr. Kennedy established the Evangelism Explosion Prison
Ministry, training members of the church to visit and minister to those
who are incarcerated and offering positive alternatives to involvement
with crime;
* Whereas in 2003, Dr. Kennedy also established Seniors Evangelism
Explosion, a `Ministry to those often Forgotten,' training church
members to visit the elderly in nursing homes, extended care facilities,
convalescent centers and also visiting shut-ins;
* Whereas in 1989 Dr. Kennedy established Knox Theological Seminary to
prepare and equip Christians for ministry;
* Whereas in 1995, Dr. Kennedy launched the Center for Christian
Statesmanship, a Capitol Hill outreach group that offered Bible studies
to Members of Congress and their staff;
* Whereas Dr. Kennedy also founded the Center for Reclaiming America, to
engage people in the political process;
* Whereas Dr. Kennedy hosted, `The Coral Ridge Hour,' one of the
Nation's most widely syndicated religious programs reaching as many as
3,500,000 people each week;
And concludes:
[The House of Reps] honors Dr. Kennedy's lifetime of service and
sacrifice to his God, his country, the ideals of the Christian faith,
and his work that provided hope to millions, and inspired them to build
community through service to those around them.
Nice to see our elected officials are diligently at work, promoting a
specific brand of religion, intolerance and hatred.

Helps to illustrate just how much real-world 'clout' the religious right
possesses within the confines of our nation's capital, doesn't it? So does
the unrestrained sadistic mistreatment and cruel abuse towards *this*
atheist on the part of self-professed 'Christians' out here in Marinette
County, Wisconsin.
D. J. Kennedy was an intolerant religious nut-cake, plain and simple. To
honor him is to honor intolerance, bigotry, and it could even be argued,
'treason'. ('Reclaim America for Christ', D. J. Kennedy and 'Friends'? At
*whose* expense?) But the religious right will, no doubt, get their way. And
*I*, no doubt, will continue to suffer at the hands of like-minded
'Christians' out my way with no help whatsoever coming from Wisconsin's
elected officials.
Makes you proud to be an American in George W. Bush and ***** Cheney's
Morally bankrupt and Mortally Corrupt 'Christian America', doesn't it?
It just breaks one's heart and brings on despair and disillusion, it does.
Where oh where are the 'good guys' standing tall for we nonbelieving
freethinkers and Christians opposed to these intolerant, hate-mongering
jerks?

I used to listen to his "Coral Ridge Ministry" on the radio. He was
some combination of: delusional, a conscious liar, or an ignoramus.
Perhaps that is why politicians revere him.
