Object: Troll filtering...
This is an interesting little program:
http://www.nfilter.org/
I played with it in Windows 98 run on VMWare to see what it does and it
successfully filtered out everything coming from the x-privat.org server,
defeating that particular troll's nym shifting.
Might be worth checking out if your newsreader has limited filtering
capability. It is a Windows only program and hasn't been maintained in a
while so I'm not clear on whether it'd run on a more recent Windows than
98/NT. It is, however, GPL'd so the source is available for tinkering if
anybody is so inclined.

How do you install it? The instructions just say download and run the
installer program, but it wouldn't run.

There isn't an installer program despite what the "instructions" (such as
they are) say. The download is just the executable which I've only tested
in a Windows 98 running in VMWare. The program hasn't been maintained in a
long time, it may simply not work on newer versions of Windows.

What version of Windows are you using?

XP.
When I tried to inatall it, it said it wasn't a valid win32
application.
The web page is a few years old and apparently the program is no
longer maintained.

I was going to suggest running the program in Win 9x mode, but from your
description of the problem, the installation file is a Republican, er, I
mean it's corrupt.

The nfilter dot org site hasn't been maintained for several years. The
file is corrupt there.
It has been semi- taken over and can be found at

I've been recommending this program for years. It's _definitely_
worth it. You can filter on _any_ header, any character set within
the header, even custom-made or internal headers. It is absolutely
_AWESOME_. I almost didn't get commercial Agent because nFilter could
do it for free, but there were enough to make it worth getting.
nFilter complements Agent's native capabilities _quite_ nicely. :-)

It's too bad the program isn't being maintained anymore. Though the source
is GPL'd. I was thinking of porting it.
(But just thinking of it... I dunno)
