Tsunami warnings were ignored due to threat of lawsuits |
"We finally decided not to do anything because the tourist season
was in full swing,” the source said. “The hotels were 100 percent
booked. What if we issued a warning, which would have led to an
evacuation, and nothing had happened. What would be the outcome?
The tourist industry would be immediately hurt. Our department
would not be able to endure a lawsuit."

In our last episode <342ue9F44fvqjU2@individual.net>, The Last Liberal
lept out of the bushes shouting:
"We finally decided not to do anything because the tourist season was in
full swing,” the source said. “The hotels were 100 percent booked. What
if we issued a warning, which would have led to an evacuation, and nothing

The above story is what was really going on. The head of the meteorology
department in Thailand who was just fired for *not warning people was
previously told to sit down and shut up because of a warning he
issued that turned out to be a false alarm (and without any actual
instruments out in the ocean as those countries have been encouraged to
install, that's going to happen). Don't upset the tourists!
It's finger pointing and scapegoating time, everybody's running for cover.

India Daily hasn't paid attention. They say:
"The most amazing thing is that United States Geological Survey and Ocean
Monitoring agencies came to know about the Tsunami and earthquake but
decided not to do anything."
Our USGS says they were frantically calling people at least an hour and a
half before it hit. But there was no structure in place. No place
specifically to call in case of something such as this.
*INDIA* has ignored the threat for *years now. They need to be looking at
*their government and asking why they didn't have a system in place
already.
At the very least tens of thousands of people could have been saved.
Yeah. If the nations in the Indian Ocean region had *listened. They didn't.

No, just you.
I have sent e-mail to the church asking if the flyer posted on
godhatesfags (among other web sites) is a forgery or not, but they
have not replied. It seems unlikely to me that any church here in
the 21st century would blame homosexuality as the cause of natural
evil.

Nope. They'll never go wrong blaming the US. Works every time.
This reminds me of the Bhopal disaster. Union Carbide took the blame,
but at first I remember them countering that if the Indian government
hadn't stopped them, they would have put a system in place that would
have prevented the gas leak. They claim they were told that that
system would take a couple of hundred of jobs away and were not allowed
to install it. Then they just shut up and accepted it blame. You have
to wonder if they really were at fault or just playing politics.

There are too many Indians to succor in such a disaster, and the
Indian government knows it. If your transport system can move
50,000 people, but 700,000 are in danger, what the hell does one
do?
You know damn well what they do: they warn the 100 or so
wealthiest people and ignore the rest.

My sentiment also. Yes, by all means send USA supplies and labor
to help the victims--- but the USA should also be "officially
angry" at the criticism is is falsely being subjected to.
It's all just so damn sad. Humans are so fragile, and our minds
are too weak with fear, biases, prejudices, and political agendas
to do the correct thing in such disasters. Nature doesn't give a
*****, but I do.

It's not a lot of warning and how much they could have done with it,
nobody will know. But they didn't even *try.
One of the more horrific ironies being that it would have taken all of a

specifically to call in case of something such as this.
*INDIA* has ignored the threat for *years now. They need to be looking
at *their government and asking why they didn't have a system in place
already.
There are too many Indians to succor in such a disaster, and the Indian
government knows it. If your transport system can move 50,000 people, but
700,000 are in danger, what the hell does one do?
Don't know. But "nothing" doesn't look like the right answer.
I've seen videos now of people standing around, gaping at the waves coming
in. They had *no clue. Even *some hint something was wrong could have
saved a lot of them.
You know damn well what they do: they warn the 100 or so wealthiest people
and ignore the rest.
At the very least tens of thousands of people could have been saved.
Yeah. If the nations in the Indian Ocean region had *listened. They
didn't. (For all the things I know my country does that are wrong, they
can screw themselves trying to point fingers our way)
My sentiment also. Yes, by all means send USA supplies and labor to help
the victims--- but the USA should also be "officially angry" at the
criticism is is falsely being subjected to.
Definitely. And I'm digging in my heels over this one. We're ten thousand
miles away. What were we *supposed to do? Run over and escort everybody
off the beach one by one?
Oh, they're not going to like my email. I couldn't resist the comment that
maybe their government should spend less time whipping people into a
frenzy over Kashmir and spend some time protecting its citizens.
That should ***** people off.
It's all just so damn sad. Humans are so fragile, and our minds are too
weak with fear, biases, prejudices, and political agendas to do the
correct thing in such disasters. Nature doesn't give a *****, but I do.
And we're always preparing for the *last disaster...

Well, Christians will tell you everything you need to know is in the Bible.
And I assume other religionists will tell you similar *****.
But in actuality, a 10 year old girl who bothered to pay attention in
science class would have known better.

The phenomenon of the ocean drawing out probably occurred in the
vast majority of areas where the tsunami hit, so at least anyone
within viewing range of the ocean could have predicted it. The beaches
should have cleared as people ran screaming.
Instead, virtually nobody seemed to know what was happening.
So much for ignorance is bliss.
Some decent science education would have saved virtually everyone.
Think about that when religionists do their damnedest to try to
destroy it.

In our last episode <77iqt0dd7ntr1t7gjhscqk62jjd8bkdagl@4ax.com>, henri
lept out of the bushes shouting:
The phenomenon of the ocean drawing out probably occurred in the vast
majority of areas where the tsunami hit, so at least anyone within viewing
range of the ocean could have predicted it. The beaches should have
cleared as people ran screaming.
Everything I've seen indicates that it is the case that the ocean "pulled
back" dramatically right before the waves hit. It's pretty typical of a
major tsunami.
In many cases, people were actually running *toward the ocean to collect
fish that had been beached when the water pulled back so fast.
And you're right. A little education could have saved a lot of people...

Thanks Last Lib. From this it looks like there might have been a
problem. But on the other hand as you go down the page [in the Global
Research article] they start getting into what seems [to me] to be
conspiracy theory stuff. First they blame the US for not doing
something and then they blame us for doing too much.
