Tutankhamun's Curse Offered for Sale |
Check out this auction that I found on eBay...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9517306202&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
Do you think this is legit? It certainly has bids on it...

It's an old Mason jar containing four rocks. Of course it's not legit.
It's called a "scam".

But if you open the jar, Brendan Fraser shows up at your door.

The seller seems to sell mostly stamps, coins and other "collectibles".
In other words, he understands how much people will pay for things
of little intrinsic value if they believe they are rare.
The jar could presumably be authenticated somehow, but
there's nothing noteworthy about an 80 year old Egyptian
jar. I can't imagine how one would authenticate a bunch of
nondescript rocks, particularly if you have to open the jar
and risk cursing yourself forever.
Even if you believe this guy and his great grandfather
(which you really have no reason to) you're still left
with the credibility of an unknown Egyptian
80 years ago *who was involved with antiquities and
foreign tourists*. Now I've been to
Egypt and believe me, the word "trust" doesn't
immediately pop into my mind in that situation.
