EW #900 - October 6, 2006 ("If we ran Hollywood..." w/ Kate Winslet on
the cover)
TV (page 61):

Are They Or Aren't They? The new season is just a few weeks old, but
already there are several characters who have set off our finely tuned
gaydar. We examine the evidence to suss out which ones may be having a
gay old time-- even if they don't know it yet. --Paul Katz

'Ugly Betty' role: Betty's fashion-magazine-reading nephew
* Argument against (him being gay): Talks like a tough guy, saying his
own mother is "full of crap".
* Argument for (him being gay): Refused a helping of flan, claiming
"I'll
get fat"; built an award-winning diorama of Martha Stewart's jail cell.

They're just being PC because he's a kid. Of course he's supposed to
be gay.

My only problem with the gay people depicted in popular media is that
they are such stereotypes.

A subject not really applicable to "Ugly Betty" as there aren't any
finely nuanced charactors on the show at all. Everyone's a stereotype,
from the "ugly" smart girl to the dragon lady career woman, to the
dopey geeky electronics boy led by his cajones, to the latina tramp...
