Object: UK - yelow undertail bird
I was cycling by the side of the canal in Blackburn,
I turned off into a bush-filled path and I saw a bird with
a bright yellow undertail and black upper parts
I have failed to recognise it in any of the books I have, which I
have flicked through
I just wonder whether any of you have a suggestion of what it might be
Thanks in advance...

It's a Lancashire Lark. It is quite rare, and is more often heard than
seen, emitting a shrill cry that sounds a bit like 'ebahgoom'. It is
omnivorous and is very partial to black pudding and crumbly hard
cheese. It has a fierce beak which it sometimes uses to remove the
ring pulls from cans of Boddington's, it has been known to line its
nests with the widgets from inside the can.

The yellow and black plumage evolved as camouflage so that it cannot
be seen by predators while removing the ring pulls.

I would think it would be the oomigoolis bird. This bird has no legs, so that
when it lands it cries "oomiegoolis, oomigoolis".
Alternatively it might be the flightless f'kawi vulture, common in the
grasslands of Saddleworth Moor. When the grass is very long it wanders around
crying "W'ere the f'kawi, we're the f'kawi".
