Anyone assisting in the spread of nuclear weapons should be stopped. If
only the US will do so, so be it.

I am supporting punishing the 8 Chinese firms (no doubt acting on behalf

I support the absolute abolition of nuclear weapons by every country,
including the USA.
Every nuclear power (and YES, this includes the USA) should abolish their
nuclear weapons with the other nuclear powers or unilaterally, if the
others are don't.
To be absolutely clear: I support the total, unilateral abolition of
nuclear weapons by the USA.
If my memory is correct, I first signed a petition to that effect in the
winter of 1961. (You should not make assumptions about what I think until
you know me better.)

A rogue nation like the U.S., currently bent on increasing its
own nuclear arsenal and demonstrably dedicated to spreading its
hegemony by use of force,
Ahh, yes, the hegemony of independent, democratically elected
governments that respond to the will of their people instead of the
whims of despots. My, they are a danger to the world, aren't they?
cannot claim leadership (or even
legitimacy) in the push for worldwide nuclear disarmament. U.S.
pressure on other nations to abandon their weapons programs is
deemed -- quite correctly -- not as a move toward nuclear
nonproliferation but as an attempt to weaken any country that
resists the hegemon. It would be as if Hugh Hefner initiated a
crusade against nudity and eroticism, with _Playboy_ excepted.
More like how the porn industry has initiated a crusade for "safe sex".

The mere existence of such weapons is bad. They should all be dismantled.
Permanently.
Keeping the number of countries with nuclear weapons as small as possible
is better than nothing (albeit not as good a solution).
To directly answer your question, I don't think the effort to reduce their
spread will cause their use.

To directly answer your question, I don't think the effort to reduce their
spread will cause their use.
If the US continues on it's "rogue" path of only adhering to
international law when it is convenient and invading sovereign
countries without due cause such as Iran or North Korea I fear it will
indeed cause their use.
I support the USA involving itself with and cooperating with others to
suppress the spread of nuclear weapons.
But when international groups of countries are not ready, willing
and able to do so, I support unilateral action by the USA (or China, or
the EU, etc.).

Of course, the US is the only country to have used Nuclear weapons in
anger, and talks about using "straegic" nukes in the future. Sounds to me
that there is indeed a "rogue" nation here, only the US doesn't understand
what a mirror is :-)

The B29 carpet bombing raids did a hell of a lot more damage. The abomb
attacks were just demonstrations by comparison.

This sums up the arrogant attitude which infuriates the rest of the
world.
Anyone assisting in the spread of nuclear weapons should be stopped. If
only the US will do so, so be it.
So why isn't the US asking Israel to dis-arm her nukes ????????

Thank you for giving such a perfect example of the ugly American.
You're the country with most nuclear weapons. You're the only country
that has used them. And you arrogant bullies imagine that you get to
tell everybody else.

That sums up Fred Stone and his ilk (which includes the current
administration) quite nicely.
