Va. considers ban on genitalia displays
By BOB LEWIS, Associated Press WriterTue Jan 15, 5:14 PM ET
It's one thing to dangle fuzzy dice from a rear view mirror, but
decorating a trailer hitch with a large pair of rubber testicles might
be a bit much in Virginia.
State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying
replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue
because it could distract other drivers.
Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle would
be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250.
He said the idea came from a constituent whose young daughter spotted an
example of the trail hitch adornment and asked her father to explain it.
"'I didn't know what to tell her,'" Spruill said the constituent told
him before Spruill vowed to stop such displays.
"I said, 'Sir, I'm going to be a laughingstock, but I'm going to do
it,'" he said.
The Virginia General Assembly has some experience with offbeat bills.
Three years ago, it drew widespread attention with an unsuccessful
effort to outlaw baggy pants worn so low they expose underwear.
Spruill, 61, said the indignity of the "droopy drawers" debate wouldn't
deter him. He said he won't hesitate to bring a set of $24.95 trailer
testicles with him for a legislative show-and-tell.
"I'm going to do it," Spruill told a handful of reporters after
Tuesday's House session adjourned. "I'm going to bring them out here and
show them to you till they tell me to stop."

Heck, I'd also ban profanity on bumper stickers.

I don't see how a punch in the face can be compared to fake testicles.

I think people are far too uptight about sex and anatomy. It will not
harm
children to see nudity (real or fake), it really won't. I would say the
world would be much better off in dropping that taboo. What *will* harm
children is continually implanting the idea that parts of their bodies
are "dirty" and shouldn't been seen at all costs. That's where we get the
idea that nudity is bad in the first place. Uptight children become
uptight adults.

Well put, remember the first amendment that protects Student Activists
ALSO protects Andrew Dice Clay. Just because it is stupid, does not
mean it shouldn't be a civil right. After all, II would thoroughly
object to a law banning religion, bcause while religion is dumb, it is
also a civil right

You can say its stupid, rude, or whatever you like, the issue here is
that you are saying it should be illegal, and that's where I draw the
line. To support making it illegal means you are empowering the
government to decide as to what speech is acceptable. This could
easily be interpreted as to atheist bumper stickers as "profane"

What, you writing greeting cards?

Here are the actual guidelines for the "free speech" crowd:

Boy, you're behind the times. In Florida five years ago, a man who had
the vanity plate "ATHEIST" was ordered by the DMV to return it because
they had received a complaint that it was offensive, and their policy is

That's not quite it. Bumper stickers -- in particular -- have been
addressed by the high courts, and there is a criteria:

EAC Department of Cruel and Unusual Choreography
Gentlemen:
I read today's lead article in the the St. Petersburg times
with great
alarm. It seems that your department is discriminating on the basis of
religion
against Mr. Steven Miles of Gainesville. Your decision is in violation
of
Sections 2 and 3 of the Constitution of the State of Florida as well
as the 1st
and 14th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. As government officials
you are
beholden to support and defend the Constutition of the United States
and the
State of Florida in the performance of your duties. In the case of Mr.
Miles
you have shamefully violated that duty.
If it is your policy to declare Mr. Miles' tag offensive then
by the
same logic all tags with a religious theme are equally offensive and
should be
removed. This would include the other tags mentioned in the article
belonging
to Mr. Kenneth Vickery of Lakeland which say "GOD4ALL" and "ALL4GOD."
If the
judgement against Mr. Miles is upheld by your department then you may
consider
this my official complaint against the tags belonging to Mr. Vickery.
As a former resident of Florida I find the decision by your
department
un-American, anti-constitutional and morally reprehensible. In this
time of
national crisis it is more important than ever that we fight to
maintain our
freedoms under the Constitution and our laws and not to succumb to the
same
religious bigotry that so identifies our enemies in Afghanistan. I ask
you to
please uphold Mr. Miles' rights under the US and Florida Constitutions
and not
to violate them.

Weird happenings in Virginia.

Va. considers ban on genitalia displays

Does the Virginia legislature not have more important things to deal with?
You know, things like crime, the economy, employment, health care, etc.
Will all male dogs be required to wear diapers in case a curious young girl
asks "What are those?"
All the male animals in the zoo?
They'd need one hell of a big diaper for the elephants and I, certainly,
wouldn't like the job of changing it.
Excuse the pun, but this is one of the biggest loads of bollocks I've ever
seen.

Va. considers ban on genitalia displays
By BOB LEWIS, Associated Press WriterTue Jan 15, 5:14 PM ET
It's one thing to dangle fuzzy dice from a rear view mirror, but
decorating a trailer hitch with a large pair of rubber testicles
might be a bit much in Virginia.
State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying
replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue
because it could distract other drivers.
Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle
would be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250.
He said the idea came from a constituent whose young daughter spotted
an example of the trail hitch adornment and asked her father to
explain it.
Spruill, 61, said the indignity of the "droopy drawers" debate
wouldn't deter him. He said he won't hesitate to bring a set of
$24.95 trailer testicles with him for a legislative show-and-tell.
"I'm going to do it," Spruill told a handful of reporters after
Tuesday's House session adjourned. "I'm going to bring them out here
and show them to you till they tell me to stop."

Does the Virginia legislature not have more important things to deal
with? You know, things like crime, the economy, employment, health
care, etc. Will all male dogs be required to wear diapers in case a
curious young girl asks "What are those?"
All the male animals in the zoo?
They'd need one hell of a big diaper for the elephants and I,
certainly, wouldn't like the job of changing it.
Excuse the pun, but this is one of the biggest loads of bollocks I've
ever seen.

Ingersoll didn't go far enough. When he said, "The liberty of man is

government."
I was slightly surprised to find that Spruill is a Democrat. Usually
when you hear about big-government using the power of the state to
enforce ludicrous so-called "decency" standards, it is more often than
not an America-hating, Taliban-wannabee theocratic Republican pushing
for it. Remember Ashcroft's controversy with the justice statues? He
was offended by an exposed breast and covered it up. Symbolized his
commitment to justice very appropriately.

Will all male dogs be required to wear diapers in case a curious young girl
asks "What are those?"
All the male animals in the zoo?
They'd need one hell of a big diaper for the elephants and I, certainly,
wouldn't like the job of changing it.
Excuse the pun, but this is one of the biggest loads of bollocks I've ever
seen.
Ingersoll didn't go far enough. When he said, "The liberty of man is
not safe in the hands of any church" he should have included "or
government."
Surely in VA.
I would have thought he was a Republican too. I wonder how old he is?
Some of the old Southern Democrats before the 1960 election were some of
the biggest conservatives around. Strom Thurmond started off as a Dem.
He's not young and based on what I can see from his picture, I think
it is highly unlikely that he is an old Dixiecrat. :}

Va. considers ban on genitalia displays
By BOB LEWIS, Associated Press WriterTue Jan 15, 5:14 PM ET
It's one thing to dangle fuzzy dice from a rear view mirror, but
decorating a trailer hitch with a large pair of rubber testicles
might
be a bit much in Virginia.
State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying
replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue
because it could distract other drivers.
Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle
would
be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250.
He said the idea came from a constituent whose young daughter spotted
an
example of the trail hitch adornment and asked her father to explain
it.
Spruill, 61, said the indignity of the "droopy drawers" debate
wouldn't
deter him. He said he won't hesitate to bring a set of $24.95 trailer
testicles with him for a legislative show-and-tell.
"I'm going to do it," Spruill told a handful of reporters after
Tuesday's House session adjourned. "I'm going to bring them out here
and
show them to you till they tell me to stop."

Does the Virginia legislature not have more important things to deal
with?
Apparently not.
You know, things like crime, the economy, employment, health care, etc.
No, because those things would actually require hard work and
difficult decision making. People who get elected to high office are
incapable of these things.
They don't get paid enough graft to work that hard.

Whoops! Now that I looked up his picture, I see exactly what you mean.
