- Vatican Approves of Harry Potter
-
- VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -Harry Potter fans, relax. The Vatican
- says the kid is all right. The question of whether J.K.
- Rowling's books and the films on the boy wizard have a positive
- influence came up at a news conference Monday where the Vatican
- presented a document on "New Age" spirituality, which contain
- elements of the occult. "I don't think that any of us grew up
- without the imaginary world of fairies, magicians, angels and
- witches," said Father Peter Fleetwood, a Vatican official who
- worked on the document. "They are not bad or a banner for
- anti-Christian ideology. They help children understand the
- difference between good and evil," he said in response to a
- reporter's question.

You almost have to feel bad for the poor fundies, aren't they confused
enough already? Would someone please just tell them what to think so they
aren't forced to strain their decrepit atrophied brains?

A substantial number of fundies have decided that Catholics aren't Christians
and the Pope is the Antichrist.

I don't know about a substantial number of fundies deciding this... but, I
do know that this is a major part of the beliefs of the Jehova's Witnesses.
This is a strongly evagelistic (ie door-to-door) Christian sect/cult. They
rely heavily upon the Book of Revelation in the NT of the Bible. I like
confronting these sorts when they come to my door and have read much of
their nonsense. They believe that the Vatican and the United Nations are
the new Rome and their downfall is predicted in the Revelation of John.
Yes, they also believe that the Pope is the Anti-Christ. This crap, I
believe is not mainstream Christian fundamentalism. Many, mainly
Southern/Bible Belt Christians are very distrustful of The Catholic Church
and it was targeted by the KKK. Nowadays, I believe that many fundies and
conservative Catholics have joined arms in their desire to fight abortion
rights and to use government money to fund private religious schools. Amen.
Creator, save us from those that distort this beautiful world we are blessed

Hi Oddbit, I think you're kind of confused about Jehovah's Witnesses.
They're NOT Christians whatsoever. They don't believe in the divinity of
Jesus Christ, they think He is the reincarnation of archangel Michael. They
do not believe in the Trinity or the virgin birth.
Not Christian at all but a totally differenet cult.

I agree, they're not Christians at all. I guess I just should have said
they are a cult. Still they have strange views about Catholics that other
fundamentalists groups don't share.

I invite other Asatruar to add their own, which I will then combine.
I would also appreciate info on failed links.
If anyone has objections to any site or org then mail me with precise
details.
Note that listed here are only a fraction of the available resources.
However, enough should exist here to enable you to find what I omit.
There is also a copy of this on my site at

feel free to link to it if you're feeling lazy.

A substantial number of fundies have decided that Catholics aren't
Christians
and the Pope is the Antichrist.
I don't know about a substantial number of fundies deciding this... but, I
do know that this is a major part of the beliefs of the Jehova's Witnesses.
I probably overreached here. The substantial number, strictly speaking,
is of fundies who don't think that Catholics are Christians. You can search
the archives of alt.atheism for discussions about what exactly Hitler was,
and you'll find quite a lot of assertions that he was not a Christian on
account of because he was Catholic.

No, it's obvious that Hitler was neither Catholic NOR Christian on
account of his behavior...
You can call yourself anything you want. But if you call yourself a
vegetarian and then eat meat all day, you're not a vegetarian.
But yes, there are a fair share of fundies who don't consider
Catholics to be Christians (which is hilarious if you know anything
about the history of Christianity). At the same time, there are a fair
share of fundies who don't consider anyone a Christtian who doesn't
belong to their particular denomination...

FWIW, most Christian fundamentalists consider Jehovah's Witness's to be a

they
aren't forced to strain their decrepit atrophied brains?

I don't know about a substantial number of fundies deciding this... but, I
do know that this is a major part of the beliefs of the Jehova's
Witnesses.
Amen.
Creator, save us from those that distort this beautiful world we are
blessed
with.

This won't confuset the Fundies at all. From their point of view, Harry
Potter is Satanic, Catholics are Satanic, therefore Catholics like Harry

I think U.S.A. needs God to push their beliefs. The American schools
that ban Potter also NEVER teach evolution.
1- You are confusing the vast majority of Americans with a VERY small
minority of Christian fundamentalists who still believe in the Garden of
Eden too. However - as our laws allow all faiths - we defend their right
to be stupid - which defends our right not to be.
2- Very few schools - and mostly religious ones not controlled by the
state - banned Potter - but Evolution is an accepted part of the
curricullum in all public schools in the USA - and only Religious
schools could not teach it. Yes - some schools have gone to teaching
both - but be fair - the end result of 12 years of Public education
strongly agrees with evolution.

George W. Bush. I think Molly Ivins, a politcal humorist (left-wing) from
Texas was the first to use this nickname for Bush Jr. in order to
distinguish him from the elder, George H. W. Bush. George (the father) and
his son, Shrub, like to refer to each other as 41 and 43, respectively. The
current Bush is the 43rd president of the USA. See this link:

€ the names Are different, thanks to the 'H'. The Bushes are a
substantial source of comic fodder.

Yeah, I like that one too. There are a few more that are probably not
appropriate for sensitive ears.
