Veterans of Foreign Wars |
Mr. McCain and Mrs. Clinton spoke today at the Veterans of Foreign Wars
convention. Though, they differed on Iraq somewhat, both advocated a
militaristic, aggressive foreign policy. They called it "defense".
Since when, maintaining close to 200 military bases in foreign countries
is called "defense"? Waging aggressive wars and occupation are called
"defense"? I'd guess since the Department of War was renamed to the
Department of Defense (August 10, 1949).
The Orwellian language has a long history in the US. Bush & Co just
tremendously improved on it. They have taken it to the upper limits,
that would embarrass any of the previous totalitarian regimes, as they
would be seen incompetent comparing to Bush & Co.

Why should I apologize? You are running around with the Usenet

If you want my respect - stop making stuff up.
LMAO You think that someone out their *wants* your respect!!
I think Scruffy has gotten past the angst of not getting your respect
Colin. The ridiculing of your usual insults and ignorance should have
been a hint. Thanks for the laugh though :)
It must be horrible having people disagree with you.
It's telling that you don't know.

The same is true of all of the people that treat you like a jerk.

Of course. I was there for the first elections.
I take it that you are not aware that the Iraqi people did exactly
this in the beginning of 2005?
The Iraqi people voted on their constitution then elected a
parliament to represent them. These elected representatives of the
Iraqi people are the people who should rule Iraq as long as they
remain answerable to the Iraqi people.
The people we are fighting in Iraq are trying to overthrow the
government selected by the Iraqi people in UN certified elections.
As I recall, Hussein was also elected.
A one party, one candidate to choose from isn't exactly an election.
Of course, his Parliament could have voted no instead of all voting
yes but that would be the last they would ever disagree with the
"Elected" Official President.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if Saddam's election was U.N.
Certified?

It wasn't.
"On October 16, 2002, after a well-publicized show election, Iraqi
officials declared that Saddam had been re-elected to another
seven-year term as President by a 100% unanimous vote of all
11,445,638 eligible Iraqis, eclipsing the 99.96% received in 1995. The
United States and others outside Iraq said the vote lacked any
credibility. Stories later surfaced stating that voting was compulsory
and that the "yes" box had already been checked for voters in advance.

What makes you think that the Iraqi people are fighting to overthrow
the government they elected?
Do you have any clue whatsoever about who the factions in Iraq are and
what their political goals are?

Pick up a newspaper.
Name one newspaper article that provides a detailed description of the
political factions inside Iraq and what the goals are of the larger
social groups in Iraq.
For example: name one newspaper who can describe the differences in
political goals between the secular Sunni and the non-secular Sunni.
Even better - name one newspaper whose stories come from reporters who
have gone 'outside the wire.'
You don't have the faintest clue as to what you are talking about.
What is really sad is that here you are - aware that I can tell you
about the factions in Iraq but are not interested in actually learning
something.

He is claiming to be talking about the Iraqi people. The same Iraqi

I am still waiting for him to rationalize how they people of Iraq can
be trying to overthrow a government they choose.
Unless of course - the thinks that Al Queda speaks for the people of

You still don't get it. Maliki is Sadr's boy, always has been, always will
be. The Sunni withdrawel completed the overthrow, but functionally the
overthrow happened the day the election results were known. The very
instant the U.S. withdraws, it's a Sunni nation. It doesn't matter how
many decades we stay, the result will be the same. Why do you think that
Sadr was begging the U.S. to take out Saddam in 91? For a democracy?
Guess again.
Hell, we might as well served Iraq to Iran on a silver platter, the end
result will be exactly the same.
