He is the only serious historian.
He knows, not only what he is talking about
but also what the ancient world is about.
Roger knows the minds of the pseudo-scholars
and expose theirs flawed methodologies with wit.
Roger, we love you and so does the Lord, keep up your good
works for His glory.

This of course misses the point. Although Roger is a committed religionist,
I am sure he does it to feed knowledge rather than for your god's glory.
Staunch religionist as he is, and an old adversary, I give him much more
credit for honest scholarship than your fundie encomium presents.

Whatever! But unlike "those ivory towers on the sand" he is interested
in finding the truth and he also knows what methodology to apply.
He deserved to be called a WISE scholar.

While I appreciate the good wishes, I'm afraid this is either too much
praise, or too much condemnation. I write only as an amateur
interested in the transmission of texts from antiquity, and patristics
with special reference to Tertullian. There are other good posters
who also have specialised knowledge, and it is always good to hear
from them.
A general thought: anyone may make a useful contribution, in my view,
if only he will eschew opinion and stick to placing primary material
online where we can all get at it. It would be nice if more people
would do this. There is plenty to do!
All the best,
Roger Pearse

Roger, we all applaud your tireless work on our behalf in placing impossible
to get works on line. Now if you would follow the other half of your dictum,
and 'eschew opinion and stick to placing primary material online where we
can all get at it' we could all relax and enjoy. Or doesn't the dictum apply
to you as well?

Don't be silly, Nevile! He was of course referring to such as you.
