Another example of the deluded leading the blind (and visa versa):
The following is an excerpt from their newsletter.
Who Killed More?
It is sometimes said that "more people have been killed in the
name of Christ than in any other name." The truth is that atheists
have scattered far more corpses across their blood-soaked killing
fields. The atrocities committed during the Crusades and Inquisition
pale before the human slaughter under Stalin, who killed 40 million,
and Hitler, who was responsible for the death of six million Jews and
9-10 million others.
Whichever belief system has the lowest body count must be the right one,
I
guess...
You know, it's well known that Hitler was a theist, but what about
Stalin?
Is there any evidence that he actually was an atheist, or do
fundamentalists just assume this? I know he went to seminary when he was
young, and I know he persecuted Christian churches later (so what?
Christians persecute each other more fiercely than anyone else,
really) -
but is there any clear evidence of what he actually believed?
Stalin did believe in a God....himself! His monumental ego lead him to
virtually appoint himself as the deity of the USSR. He would refer to
himself all the time in god like terms and referred to any indiscretion
against him as a "sin". He had total and complete control over the lives
and deaths of everyone under his command and demanded that they all
worship
him and the state he ruled and if they didn't they would suffer and pay
for
it with their lives....just as the Christian God he had been raised from
childhood to believe did. These where his formative years. Just like
Hitler, the monster that he was to become were created in a theistic
childho
od. What he believed or didn't believe in as an adult were really
irrelevant, because by the time they reached that stage, the twisting of
the
mind had already well and truly begun. He was in seminary, and he did
drop
out and did reject the theistic God...which I suppose technically makes
him
an atheist...but if you look at the way the communist state was structured
and functioned it was based on the same principles as all large religions.
Communism is as much a religion as Catholicism, but they worship the state
instead of a God....the head of that state instead of a Pope.
A Christian theologist might argue that they worshipped God through the
State. "Give unto Caeser that which is Caeser's" ... communism may be a form
of Christianity. Can anyone point to a communistic society prior to the
early Christian church? A Hegelian could easily argue that Christian
communism was a successor to Judaism, just as Karl Marx was the son of a
turncoat Christian Jewish father. Stalin could therefore be seen as a sort
of pope, and his anti-Semitism closely analogous to the persecution of Jews
during the Middle Ages.
It is of
course totally irrelevant as neither Stalin not any of his subordinates
kill
in the name of atheism....no one was killed because they weren't atheist
enough...no one was killed because they didn't practice the same kind of
atheism as they were told to....no one was killed because they were an
enemy
of atheism. Blaming atheism for the crimes of communism is like blaming
Coca-Cola for alcoholism, because it's sometimes used for a mixer. If
communism was a deck of cards, then atheism would be the two of
spades...one
small and almost irrelevant part of a complex whole. These theistic
idiots
may as well blame his moustache for the crimes of the soviet union than
his
kinda-sorta atheism.
One other thing I find funny..have you ever noticed that the number of
people killed by Stalin seems to inflate every time some theist wheels out
the "Hitler and Stalin" strawman. One time it's 20 million...then 30
million...then 60 million...then 100 million. Some evil atheist seems to
be
going back in time and knocking off another dozen million people every
couple of weeks.
