He was a lame attempt by a theist or two waaaay back when to create a
'better' deity than the ones the 'neighbors' were touting. Failed miserably
though. Problem was that 'God' turned out to be just as 'fake' as the
neighbor's 'fake' deities. Oh well. Man couldn't *possibly* come up with a
more revolting deity -- and truly 'love' it. Let's hope we just stick with
the good, truth-seeking scientists for the rest of the ride.

Sounds like my wife.

I think I know who is going to have a hearty bowl of oatmeal, blueberries
and Drano for breakfast tomorrow.

The "Man who wasn't there."
As I was walking up the stair
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish he'd stay away.

In that movie, the cloned people in an underground facility were
told that, at an unpredictable time they would "win" a "lottery"
and be sent off to a beautiful island. In fact, they were only
sent as far as an operating room, where they were killed to
harvest a vital organ for transplantation into the person they
had been cloned from.
The parallel to religious beliefs about heaven was striking:
nobody who went to the island ever came back to visit or wrote
letters back home... and none of the clones doubted that when
their time came they would again be meeting their friends who
had gone to the island before them.
I wonder if that parallel was intentional. When I did a web search
for pages about the movie, I didn't find any that mentioned it.

Heck, the Island was a big budget remake of an old made-for-TV effort called
parts: the clonus horror. (All lower-case letters.)

Amusing... The Island is criticised for stealing ideas from clonus
and, if you follow the link to the review of clonus, you'll find
clonus criticised for stealing ideas from Coma.

LOL! You're absolutely right! Damn, I never thought of that.
Thanks, maybe we can track this back to the ur-fiction that spawned such a
hellish chain.
