What is heaven like. |
My understanding of the heaven myth is that you folks will sit around
singing the praises all day. Sounds boring. I am not going. Seriously
what do we have to look forward to in going to heaven with the
invention of the forty hour work week?

God graciously grants short intervals between the eternal praise and worship
sessions. If you hustle you can have a plate of barbecue ribs and a
Guinness, then wank off to Laetitia Casta photos in the interim moments.

Just got the fourth season of South Park (we don't have
cable or satellite, so it's all new to us!). Apparently
heaven is inhabited by Mormons, the other religions are all
wrong.
Since heaven is full of Mormons, the only sensible place to
go is hell.

If this be alt.atheism then we need to know what the appeal is for the
practitioners of the faith we don't believe in.
Also I think that Alt,atheism is an appropriate place to discuss
virtually anything. If you don't believe me catch one of Robert B.

Er, No, you expect 'us' at alt.atheism to explain a place that atheists
do not believe in, if you want to know what heaven looks like, ask
someone who thinks a place like such exists.. And 'practitioners of the
faith' doesn't mean that much to me, which faith? And which heaven? What
are you attempting to accomplish with this line of questioning?

Uhm, that's not really the point, is it? How do you expect an atheist to
explain heaven? It's a place people make up to soften the reality that
one day they'll cease to exist, they know it exists because someone
wrote a book with it in... Is that a suitable answer for you?

Eternal love, happiness and peace of mind for God is all love.
What is hell, which you get, if you don't go to heaven! Eternal aimless wandering with no
love - no love of God, no love of self, no love of family, no love of others, no love of
anything.

That's not an option. One eternity or the other are the only two choices. and you're
clearly on the path to the wholeheartedly worst one, your choice.

Regardless of the number in hell, yep, that's pretty much it. An eternity here or an
eternity there.
No one has gone to either one and returned to tell about it.

I'm not eligible. I've posted a number of one liners that get this reaction.
They realiuze thatby the end of the year I'll probably be able to post a
blank message and win.
I worked with a guy once that I treased so much that he would get angry when
I said "good morning"
One day he exploded and said that if I was so smart ask him *anything* about
geology and he would asnwer it. Now I know about four things. Ignious,
metamorphic, sedentary are three. So I said "What's a tectite, Paul?' He
didn't know and didn't believe me so I smiled and went on my way.
Unlike our friend Earl, he found out. It took him three days (Radio Shack
model I days) but he must have leanred a lot because when he did come back
to me he was quite happy.

I worked for someone like that back in my Navy days. He was a rabid
born again christian. Which, for the most part I just ignored except
when he tried to order us to sit and listen to him preach. At those
times I went ballistic. I never gained a shred of respect for him as
he knew nothing about our rate, couldn't tell a transistor for and
SCR. The final straw was when he spent a long minute praying so he
could identify a problem with a piece of equipment that was not
functioning properly. Took me about 30 minutes with the scope,
prints, and an idea of what was wrong to identify the problem and get
it fixed. I then ridiculed him and his prayer, said things like
"E=MC2, not a good idea, it's the law", etc........ After that he
just turned his back on me whenever I entered the room. Dookie
reminds me a lot of this guy, hmmmm, I wonder........

Eternal love, happiness and peace of mind for God is all love.
What is hell, which you get, if you don't go to heaven! Eternal aimless wandering with no
love - no love of God, no love of self, no love of family, no love of others, no love of
anything.
Both heaven and hell are the primitive superstious imaginings of early man. That
contemporary man can still subscribe to such rubbish is a strong condemnation of present day
intelligence.
Very true. Heaven will be great because it was created by a God of love.
Earth has good and bad because it was created by a God of love.
Hell will be terrible because it was created by a God of love.

Or to deny is a strong condemnation of present day ignorance.
A man's ethical behaviour should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties
and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be
restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.
[Albert Einstein]
Even albert understood what Christianity is all about.

Earl is having problems with reading again. Here he ignores "...no religious

Of course not. What Einstein said is what God said. But I wouldn't expect you to know
that.
Religion/religious is a relative definitional term.

If you really want to know try finding a copy of the book of enoch.

I doubt the existence of a "hell". And i doubt that heaven is the way
it is often described. An eternity of being forced to pray all day by
catholics seems almost as bad as etarnal damnation. A god that
deranged couldn't make a milkskake, let alone the reality we live in
today.

In the olden days pray was a welcome break from back breaking labor.
Church had a lot of interesting things to see and do, including if I
remember right fornication, drinking and gambling. More fun away from
the back breaking work.
If I was having my balls busted daily by the feudal lords knights, and
was working my butt off for little in return. Sitting around praying
all day would seem like a good deal.
But alas no television or radio in heaven. I ain't going.
