What's Love Got to do With IT? |
'Love' appears 310 times in the Bible - but that's out of a total of more
than three-quarters of a million words. But 'fun' and 'happiness' appear not
at all. 'Freedom' appears just twice, once when Paul claims to be free born
(Acts 22.27, 28) and once when Leviticus advises the thrashing of a raped
slave:
"And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to
an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be
scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free."
(Leviticus 19.20)
'Laughed' shows up just 13 times whereas 'cried' puts in 199 appearances,
which figures since 'birth' is there 15 times but 'death' no fewer than 372
times; 'enemies' outnumbers 'friends' 270 to 49, and so it goes on. Just in
case anyone should miss the general tenor of this horrid book Ecclesiastes
(7.1, 4) spells it out:
"A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the
day of one's birth."
"It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of
feasting:"
"Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the
heart is made better."
"The heart of fools is in the house of mirth." (Excerpted from "A Good
Book??- Try Morose, Misogynistic, Vindictive"; Kenneth Humphreys)

Fun and happiness are footholds of satan trickery into sinning
therefore evil, God is not defined as Love as atheists like to think.
God is King of the universe and must be worshipped and Gods laws must
be followed or else eternal damnation will result. God is love isnt the
real purpose, God as master is the real meaning. God purpose is beyond
fun and happiness so the demons and satan dont destroy the believers
right to eternal fun and happiness in heaven.

Really! What pure nonsense.
Where is your 'objective verifiable evidence' that your god or any of the
thousands of

Well, you don't know simcha, do you Bluskie?
I have a great time every Shabbat, and if you ever listened to Hassidic
music, wow...you would understand that God loves a joyful people.

I put a scripture here below. This totally blows away the idea of no "fun"
in the orignial post. Simcah! Yes, they just don't know Hebrew or Greek
Xario!
"Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the
light of Your countenance. " (Psalm 89:15, NKJV)

I think what you are leaving out is a good understanding of the original
languages. The word translated freedom appears more than that, but it is
translated differently because of context etc. The same is true with a lot
of other words. Translating into English does not mean you do justice to
the word in every case. Nor does it show the relationship to the various
English concepts you have brought up. The concept of love could be found in
numerous words that are not translated "love" in English. In fact the word
"love" in English can mean a lot of different things. They simply had other
words for it.
Another thing to remember is our English concepts have been refined or
distorted over time depending on how you want to look at it. Love can be
fun, while not saying it literally. :)

Not at all. Translation is necessary for large volumes of important written
works. Plato, and all the Greek philosophers. Martin Luther and all the
German type theologen's and or philosophers. One way we know how a
particular word is to be translated is to see how it was used previously in
other writtings. Greek is a pretty exact language, but what is rather
humorous here is that people cannot see the association of such words as
simcah-joy in Hebrew or Xaris in Greek with such concepts of fun or
pleasure. Yet of course they are. And of course there is a word for
pleasure in the Hebrew which could be translated as intensified fun. :) I
love it when people get pompus and a little cocky, but really have not done
there homework. The truth is when dealing with translations sometimes the
religious bias of the translators comes through. A lot of the Hebrew
festivals were not meant to be translated as solume assemblies, but rather
as real joyful festivals! The word Bishop is full of meaning in the greek
but became religious associated in a more formal office.

I have heard nearly every lame excuse for explaining how the book of
***** is true. Once someone is determined to belive in something, they
are going to defend it even to the point of hysterics, lying, and in
extreme cases, killing one's own children.

Neither "war" nor "murder" appear in the Hebrew old testament, nor the
Greek New Testament.
"Love", "war" and "murder" are modern English words, in modern English
orthography, and quite simply cannot appear in either versions.
