What's the Easter story? |
Ok, so I know that the myth says that JC was crucified and died. But I'm
hazy on what happens next. I guess he's buried and later he's supposedly
resurrected? What happned after that? Did he die again? If so how? If
not, what did he do and how did he die for good?

As the story goes, a sacrifice was needed to make up for the sins
of the world. And the sacrifice must be without sin. But it needed
to be a BIG sacrifice: it needed to be a human life.
And Jesus was "the lamb of God". Jesus took the sins of the
world upon himself and was sacrificed for them. While on the cross,
Jesus is reported to have said to God the Father "Why hast thou
forsaken me?" Well that must have been the moment when the sins
of the world were lumped onto Jesus. Sin causes separation.
Jesus, who has supposedly never sinned, had never felt separation from
God until that moment on the cross.
Supposedly on "Good Friday" He died. On "Easter Sunday" He
"conquered death" and was resurrected. Then He appeared
to one (or maybe two) women. Then He appeared to His 11 remaining
apostles. (Apostle #12 Judas killed himself.) Then He appeared to
a large group (the multitudes???). Then He ascended to Heaven
as a living person.
Going back to the sacrifice: In those days, the Jews did a very special
"spring cleaning". And as part of the cleaning they would take a
literal lamb, the whiter the better because white symbolizes purity,
and literally rub the walls of the house. This would take the sins of the
house away and put them on the lamb. Then they would sacrifice the
lamb. So the Jesus story is just God doing His own spring cleaning,
and/or ripping off of the Jewish tradition..
Apparently there have been at least 16 crucified saviours.

He came out of the tomb on Easter Sunday.
Then he saw his shadow - so we have 6 more months of hockey.

Lo, many moons past, on Fri, 09 Apr 2004 23:04:43 GMT, a stranger
called by some "Fester" <not@home.com> came forth and told this tale
in alt.atheism
Ok, so I know that the myth says that JC was crucified and died. But I'm
hazy on what happens next. I guess he's buried and later he's supposedly
resurrected? What happned after that? Did he die again? If so how? If
not, what did he do and how did he die for good?
The story has him rising from the tomb on the 3rd day. He meets with
the apostles, and then rides the Big Elevator to heaven.
The four gospels differ wildly in various aspects, and it's amusing to
see people try to reconcile them into one thread.

Jesus was crucified and died. He was buried in a stone tomb. Some time
during the 3 days after his death, his body was moved elsewhere, and
nobody ever found it.
The real Easter story relates to a godess called Eastre, who turned
into a hare to escape her enemies. One of her emblems was the egg, a
fertility symbol. This myth is far more interesting and enduring than
the 'some bloke once died' thing, hence the fact that people eat
chocolate eggs and rabbits on Easter Sunday, and not chocolate
crucifixes or candy Jesus effigies.
In other words, Easter has ***** all to do with Jesus.
I like Easter. It amuses me to know that so many Christians will be
chowing down on some thoroughly pagan symbols.

I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I will

were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that

There is always an answer to these fairly tales.
According to scriptures he died, was buried and then rose from the dead and
ascended into heaven
