***When the ***** was Somebody Going to Announce that Charles Rocket Died???**** |
Jesus Christ, people! The man is a television legend. He committed
suicide on October 7, and I never heard a single "blurb" about it. I
just happened to be surfing "Wikipedia," (Off the subject, can anywon
confirm the credibility of this site? I've been using it a lot
lately, and I only just recently found out that anywon can edit it.
Any help would be appreciated.) and I came upon this bit of
information. He was fired from "SNL" in 1980 for using the "F" word
on television. You'd think this event would have been announced, but
I never heard anything about it. Did anybody here, ("Usenet"), know
about this? If so, I must know why I didn't hear about it. Why
wasn't it a bigger story? If it was, where was I that day, I wonder?
And what was the reason for the suicide? Help me out here folks.

I did.
I never heard anything about it. Did anybody here, ("Usenet"),
know about this?
Yes. There was a celebrity suicide that was kept secret for
about week, and it wasn't Charles Rocket. I heard about
Rocket from several different news sources, and couldn't
imagine that it wasn't being reported elsewhere.
Jonathan Brandis hung himself back in 2003, and it was about
6 days before there was any type of official statement, and
even then it was only in direct response to media investigations
into the RUMOR of his death. If I recall correctly, his body
hadn't even been released yet when the news was finally reported.
Why wasn't it a bigger story?
Depression isn't sexy.

We was going to tell you but wasn't sure how break it to you. You know,
with you and him being such close buddies and all. Plus, we wasn't sure how

What do I think? I think that, in a way, one of the saddest things you can
ever see is the great big, empty parking lot of an amusement park that has
been shut down for years.
Stop for a minute and look at it--nobody else does anymore.
Look at the ash-gray asphalt, dried out and cracked by the sun,
sprouting green grass and dandelions undisturbed by the treads of
shoes or tires; the tall light-towers now rusted and absurdly alone;
the hundreds of fading diagonal painted lines between which no smiling
and indulgent family men will ever again guide cars full of giddy
children; the broad traffic lanes with their painted arrows now
pointing nobody at all toward turnstiles frozen shut by oxidation and
indifference and the treachery of short memory--no more waiting here,
not anymore, no more long lines, ever again.
Look at it quick before they tear it up and put up something else that
may actually make somebody a buck or two.
Sometimes I find myself driving my motor car along the cliffs where
the sprawling ruins of that sea-themed tourist attraction still stand
and I'm all like, "damn, that's fucking sad."
But I still wouldn't mind being told what that WMV was supposed to be.

Jesus Christ, people! The man is a television legend. He committed
suicide on October 7, and I never heard a single "blurb" about it. I
just happened to be surfing "Wikipedia," (Off the subject, can anywon
confirm the credibility of this site? I've been using it a lot
lately, and I only just recently found out that anywon can edit it.
Any help would be appreciated.) and I came upon this bit of
information. He was fired from "SNL" in 1980 for using the "F" word
on television. You'd think this event would have been announced, but
I never heard anything about it. Did anybody here, ("Usenet"), know
about this? If so, I must know why I didn't hear about it. Why
wasn't it a bigger story? If it was, where was I that day, I wonder?
And what was the reason for the suicide? Help me out here folks.

I thought Charles Rocket was some 60-something Canadian black man who
use to play for the CFL (Canadian Football League) doing ads for Teen

True, somebody else can come along and correct an incorrect statement
(or delete a correct one), but it's really "facts by consensus."

The news had come out in the First World War: The bloody Red Baron was
flying wonce more. The Allied Command ignored all of its men, and
called on "bllbickel" to do it again!

True, somebody else can come along and correct an incorrect statement
(or delete a correct one), but it's really "facts by consensus."
But the author (authors?) seem quite literate and well-read. It would
be different if it looked like it was written by a bunch of Usenet
posters.

Guy, get real. He was at best a B grade actor whose real claim to fame, as
you noted, was swearing on SNL.
I feel sorry for his family but beyond that, well life goes on.
