Object: WHICH IS THE REAL GOD???
Considering the thousands of different religious and god beliefs how do we
know which , if any, is real?
Just the MAJOR world religions;
Christianity
Confucianism
Baha'i
Buddhism
Mormonism
Islam
Hinduism
Judaism
Sikhism
Taoism
Zoroastrianism
Major sacred texts and documents;
Baha'i Sacred writings
Life of Buddha - Dhammapada - Pali cannon
The Bible - Christian religious documents - 18 English versions
The Book of Mormon - Church of Latter Day Saints
The Analects - Confucianism
The Eddas and Sagas - Icelandic beliefs
Wicca - Neo paganism of Greece and Rome
Bhagavgita and Rig Veda - Hinduism
Qur'an - Islam
The Tanakh - Jewism
Tao-Te-Ching - Taoism
Nag Hammadi - Gnostics
Zhuan Falun - Falun Gong
Then there also is the ancient atheist book of quatrains; The Rubaiyat by
Omar Khayyam.
And hundreds of variations on the beliefs in all these religions.
These are just the major religions. There are many more minor religions.
Additionally all have dozens and hundreds of different beliefs and factions
within their primary religion..
Of all these different Gods and belief systems which is the true one, if
any, and which are fakes? None of these documents are objective evidence.
They are all documents written, copied, recopied and modified by errant men
over the centuries. There is no way to establish authenticity or accuracy.
The objective evidence is that they are just a mixture of history, myth,
folklore and legends.
Of the BILLIONS of people on this earth, none have VERIFIABLY heard from any
of these gods or from any of their dead relatives or friends. There are a
relatively few that CLAIM they have heard from THEIR god but these are
likely just the imaginings of neurotic believers and religious fakers.
The objective evidence is that man was not created by gods but quite the
opposite; that man created the gods.

We don't. We believe and we trust in the religion we are most comfortable

So your religious belief is based on comfort?

What's your point?

The point should be living one's life on this planet now to it's fullest
without hankering after primitive hopes for the next.
As there ain't gonna be one.

How about this one...
You live your life for yourself, I live my life according to the Bible. God
does not exist, I have nothing to lose, nor do you. God does exist, I have
everything to gain, you have everything to lose.
Oh what's this about "life to the fullest?" What will that mean once you're
non-existant and have no memories about this life you just lived? Death is
forever.
I believe I'm much better off, but you go ahead and have it your way.

hung for nine days, pierced by his own spear, on the world tree."
I hate war and death. Poetry and wisdom is fine but worthless without life.
Because he was peirced by his own spear, this means he's either stupid or
there is another being that is more powerful and able to defeat him. I'll
stick with my God.

Having learned the history of Islam, I'm willing to stake eternity on
the
fact that it is a false religion.

The same goes for me and Christianity. Funny, that.

More power to you.

Power? I'm not out for power. But could you tell me why Islam is a false
religion while Christianity is true? Why should I believe in Jesus and not
in Allah?

When I'm dead, I'm dead. I won't be there to miss a thing, so what do I
lose and how could I even care?

If that is true, then what do I have to lose?

Living your life to the fullest, giving it meaning for yourself and
others. What else? Does your life here and now have so little meaning that
you can only endure it because what might happen after you lose it? If so,
I pity you, whole-heartedly. Don't you believe that even if your god
exists he wants you to live a good life, worthwhile to yourself and those
around you? Or do you think this is just the valley of tears, with a
reward for your suffering after death? That sounds so bleak, so dark, so
terrible that it hurts me to even think it might be like that to you.

The point should be living one's life on this planet now to it's fullest
without hankering after primitive hopes for the next.

As there ain't gonna be one.

[stand by for the usual crappy comment 'how do you know']

How about this one...

You live your life for yourself, I live my life according to the Bible.

God

does not exist, I have nothing to lose, nor do you. God does exist, I

have

everything to gain, you have everything to lose.

What's this? A restatement of Pascal's Wager? What you have to lose is
guaranteed. You lose all the time you waste hoping for events which will
never happen, like the curing of your cancer, the behavorial changes in your
prodigal son, the change of heart for your cheating wife, etc.

Oh what's this about "life to the fullest?" What will that mean once

you're

non-existant and have no memories about this life you just lived? Death

is

forever.

It will mean only as much as those who knew me in life respected me. If I
am evil in life, I will be remembered as evil in death. Anything beyond
that is just a false hope.

I believe I'm much better off, but you go ahead and have it your way.

Yes, you do. What if god does exist but it's not the god you worship?
What if the Muslims are right? Or the Native Americans? Or the Hindi?
If that's the case than all your bible worship will have gotten you
nowhere. You'll be sitting right next to me, the atheist, in hell. And
won't that give me a chuckle!

There but for circumstances go I.
Being an atheist isn’t a choice or act of will — like theism; it’s a
consequence of what one knows and how one reasons.

I'm sure there will be a constant dull roar of laughter at all the
Christians sent to hell by Allah or Quetzalcoatl or whoever, who thought
they had nothing to lose by being Christian.
Of course Gamelson won't see this because he's playing ostrich with me.
My arguments made him uncomfortable so like most of his religious
brethren, he killed-filed me immediately so he wouldn't have to be faced
with anything unpleasant.

Considering the thousands of different religious and god beliefs how do we
know which , if any, is real?

We don't. We believe and we trust in the religion we are most comfortable
with.

It it don't get more banal than that

An honest answer.
I dont believe any of them - I am not comfortable with the idea of any
religion created by man being worthy of blind trust.
I've met too many human beings.

know which , if any, is real?

None. They were all created by man to control society and try to explain
what man didn't know. Most religions work on man's fear using a good/evil,
black/white mentality.

The objective evidence is that man was not created by gods but quite the
opposite; that man created the gods.

Exactly.
