Terrorists for Kerry

192 DEAD; 1,200 WOUNDED. SO, WAS IT AL-QAEDA?
Have you seen those images on television yesterday? Did you see those
trains in Spain blown to bits? Now ... can you picture that same
scene somewhere in the United States ... maybe in the Northeast
corridor or in
Chicago where tens of thousands of people commute by rail?
So, you think this election is about jobs and health care? There are
about 200 people in Spain who will no longer benefit from any health
care, and another 1,200 who probably won't be going to work for today
.... or for a while ... or maybe never. Is al-Qaeda back? Maybe they
never left! The supposedly peaceful religion of Islam has struck
again, brutally murdering 192 people, and wounding more than 1,200. If
you think the war on terror isn't important, then it's time to get
your head out of the sand, or whatever dark region you have it stored.
Unless you have been living under a rock, by now you have heard what
happened. Ten backpack bombs exploded within a 15-minute span,
starting at about 7:40 a.m. yesterday aboard commuter trains. Police
also detonated three more bombs. A stolen van was found near Madrid
containing seven detonators and an Arabic tape with Koran verses on
it. The Spanish government initially pointed the finger at a
separatist group, but then a letter was faxed to Reuters by an
al-Qaeda-backed group. They referred to the attack as "operation death
trains." The attack occurred 911 days after September 11th. Another
letter was faxed to the Associated Press office in Cairo warning that
America was next. That's right; al-Qaeda says America is
next.
You have a role to play here. You have a decision to make ... and that
decision will be made on November 2nd. You will decide who is going to
lead this country in this time of peril ... this era of Islamic
terrorism. Maybe you'll want to chose someone who has proven that he
will use the American military and whatever resources are available to
him to hunt these terrorists down and kill them. Or maybe you'll want
to chose the man who says that this is all a law enforcement problem;
someone who, if he does manage to catch these Islamic predators with
his glorified police force, will then turn them over to some
international tribunal for trial. As the great Og Mandino once said,
"Use wisely your power of choice."
Who do you think the thousands of people who have died at the hands of
al-Qaeda would choose? And who do you think the al-Qaeda supporters
and sympathizers in the United States will chose?

The statement said it supported President Bush (news - web sites) in his
reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than
the Democratic candidate John Kerry (news - web sites), as it was not
possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with
matters by force rather than with wisdom."
That about says it all. They already have the "jobs in China" ad. I'd
love to see the ad for "Bush - Al Qaeda's choice in their own words"

some on the left also prefer Bush.

I think "prefer" might be a strong term. Bush has certainly been a uniter
of sorts, as he promised. But, all-in-all, I'd rather he'd been locked in
his room the last decade with all the booze, blow and hookers he could
handle.

To avoid this conclusion one would have to avoid asking the question
'what was the intention of the terrorists who perpetrated the crimes
of 9/11?'. Most Americans do not even *ask* this question.
One would trivially conclude al-Qaeda would have desired the following
outcomes, while believing them to be farfetched:
- Bring down secular leaders of the Muslim world
- Transform the compassion of the world for the US as 9/11 victim into
international shock and anger at the US' irrational response to it
- Unite the billion Muslims of the world in hatred of the United
States
- Isolate the United States from its allies
Farfetched as they would have seemed four years ago, al-Qaeda has
accomplished all four objectives. 9/11 succeeded beyond bin Laden's
wildest dreams. And it was able to do so because of the pathetic
cabal of warmongering morons running this country.
I expect al-Qaeda to arrange for a fresh terrorist attack in October
2004 -- if Bush is behind in the polls. And I expect Karl Rove to do
his damndest to have the United States *fail to prevent it*.

That's the thing, isn't it? As we should remember, the "war on terror" is
a metaphor. Americans have the worst geographical knowledge in the First
World, but it shouldn't be necessary to point out that there is no country
named "Terror". What does it say about us that Rumsfeld said the targets
were better in Iraq? What the hell? Let's bomb these cities in Iraq --
don't have any WMDs but they're easy to find on the map? Sending
thousands or tens of thousands of infantry into the Afghanistan foothills
to get Ossama would have been, like, a real drag, man. (Although, yes, it
certainly would have been.) So, why bother? Let's invade this other,
secular, country instead. They've got cities.
How could this administration not go down in history as dangerously
insane?
Couldn't be more obvious that al-Qaeda doesn't _need_ an army. All they
have to do is push the right buttons and every time Bush responds
predictably, greater hatred for the U.S. is created -- and a greater pool
of potential recruits for them. Best recruiter fundamentalist Islam could
dream of. Isn't chess. Isn't even checkers. But it takes more thought
than the typical Bushie can apparently muster -- at _any_ level of the
Neocon hierarchy.
That said, the Neocons have gotten us into this quagmire. Unless we
un-demonize the U.N. (and I don't see the Neocons doing that), we're stuck
there. Therefore, I have to judge regime change in the U.S. as the best
hope to eventually regain peace.

a metaphor. Americans have the worst geographical knowledge in the First
World, but it shouldn't be necessary to point out that there is no country
named "Terror".

Yep. As numerous pundits point out, "terror" is a tactic. It's like
declaring a War on Carpet Bombing.

What does it say about us that Rumsfeld said the targets
were better in Iraq? What the hell?

Dr. Strangelove is alive and well. That's what it means.
Actually, it means that national security is less important than what
makes the news, to these folks. Politics trumps patriotism. Like the
outing of Valerie Plame, the invasion of Iraq overall has stunk to me
of the value systems of ancient Rome, where the security of the state
was freely endangered if it meant political advantage over one's
rivals.
Only one side is playing this game, though. Democrats haven't given
our country up for lost yet, and still seem to think their opponents
are loyal patriots with differing priorities but the same goals.
I don't see it. I can't see anything the administraition has done
that has been other than destructive to our nation.

How could this administration not go down in history as dangerously
insane?

The winners write the history books, that's how. Sanity does not
always beat insanity. We could *lose*. Bush could be yet remembered
as the first of our Great Hereditary Christian Leaders, By The Grace
Of God President Of The United States And Leader Of The Free World,
The Second Coming Of The Prophet Ronald, and carved into Rushmore on
top of Jefferson. I'd say that our grandchildren could be forced to
recite a list of his accomplishments, except that one of his
accomplishments will be the shutting down of every public school
within ten years (if we don't repeal NCLB).
This administraition has been a disaster on so many fronts it's hard
even to stick to a topic. Trashed our international standing, trashed
our environment, trashed our economy, trashed our political process,
trashed our government. Trashed our country.
But if they win, and we march into a global economic depression,
environmental catastrophe, permanent war, and police state -- the
survivors will make it a crime to write a history book that claimed
the march wasn't inevitable, or to question the dogma that Bush saved
us from an even worse fate. They're already trying to claim it --
that the Kerry chemotherapy will be worse than the Bush tumor.
The winners write the history books. That's why they're fighting so
hard to win. When they drag Osama bin Surprise out of his hole in
October, you'll see just what they're willing to manipulate for
partisan gain.
The stakes for this election are incredibly high.
