Object: Who Would You Invite To Dinner?
Yes, I'm bored again....
So here's the question.
You can have any twelve people to dinner + you. Who would you choose?
Alas I was looking for one of my postings on the BBC website and found
this old one, but I thought it an interesting question...
I think the most interesting people to invite, from the point of view
of interaction, would be:

1. The Pope
2. Any Taliban Leader
3. Salman Rushdie
4. Idi Amin (Yes, still alive!)
5. Christopher Hitchens
6. Stephen Hawking
7. Charles Keating (ask the Pope)
8. General Efraín Ríos Montt
9. M Gorbachev
10. Quentin Crisp
11. Glenda Jackson
12. Diana Rigg
13. Therion Ware (me!)

A plastic dinner service I think, or Greek food perhaps?
Therion, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

4. Idi Amin (Yes, still alive!)

No. Died 16/8/2003

10. Quentin Crisp

No. Died 21/11/1999.

They were alive when I composed that list, though I suppose they
wouldn't make very good conversation these days.

Miss January, Miss February, Miss March, . . .
Well, probably not, but it would certainly make dessert more
interesting.

1. Robert Hunter (lyricist for the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia.
Amazingly interesting man.)
2. Barry Bonds (left fielder for the Giants, and possibly the greatest
power hitter in the game's history.)
3. Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer for Green Day)
4. Stephan Hawking (An amazing mind, and an equally impressive sense
of humor.)
5. Nelson Mandela (former President of South Africa, and long time
prisoner of the apartheid regime.)
6. Harlan Ellison (author and noted *****. But brilliant.)
7. Hillary Clinton (she'd provide an interesting view of events.)
8. Rob Halford (lead singer of Judas Priest. Openly gay, and proud of
it.)
9. Robert Ballard (the man who found the Titanic (not to mention the
Bismark.))
10. Ken Hite (author of the Supressed Transmission column in Pyramid
Online and walking encyclopedia of strange lore.)
11. C. Paul Robinson (Director, Sandia National Lab, where a lot of
the work on fusion is being done.)

6. Harlan Ellison (author and noted *****. But brilliant.)

Did he write the screenplay for 'A boy and his dog'?

Based on his own story by the same name, yes.

You can have any twelve people to dinner + you. Who would you choose?

1. Robert Hunter (lyricist for the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia.
Amazingly interesting man.)

dunno about "amazingly interesting" (mostly because I've never
read anything about the guy), but based on his incredible lyrics
(which I've heard on numerous occasions, and memorized all to
often to boot! :^D), I have no doubt he'd make a Top 12 dinner
companion

2. Barry Bonds (left fielder for the Giants, and possibly the
greatest power hitter in the game's history.)

uh, no...might indeed be a Top 12 candidate, but Ruth and Williams
were clearly superior hitters (see
http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/OPSplus_career.shtml)

4. Stephan Hawking (An amazing mind, and an equally impressive sense
of humor.)

5. Nelson Mandela (former President of South Africa, and long time
prisoner of the apartheid regime.)

6. Harlan Ellison (author and noted *****. But brilliant.)

7. Hillary Clinton (she'd provide an interesting view of events.)

good mix...of course if we could raise the dead (and for this
adventure, who says we can't! :^D), I think you'd want to add
-o- Hunter Thompson
-o- Michael Faraday
-o- Toyko Rose
-o- Mao Tse-Tung
-o- David Hume
-o- Catherine the Great

If you're talking about raising the dead, how about:
Isaac Asimov
Stephen Jay Gould
And, oh heck, Charles Darwin.

I've heard him speak, and read some of his essays. Very interesting
view of the universe.

I'm a Giants fanatic, so I'll stick with my claim (Ruth and Williams
never had to face black pitchers.)

Oh, if we get to go time raiding, I'm having Machevelli and Dante over
for tea.

I don't know about Tokyo Rose, she was just a person in the wrong
place and the wrong time. But having Lt. Hiroo Onoda over would be
interesting for a Japanese WWII perspective.

Never? Maybe not Ruth, but Williams retired after the 1960 season, so he
might have faced some black pitchers.
