Object: Why Bush Invaded Iraq...It's not about Oil
There is much postulating as to why Bush was so gun-ho to invade Iraq but
it's all in the documentation and not so hard to see. (1) Bush wanted to be
a war-time president. He felt with our strong military it was a "no lose"
situation and previous presidents who presided in times of war, Korea, WW2,
WW1, Spanish American War, Civil War all are idolized. Bush has limited
talents at running a company and with the economy heading South he realized
he have no better chance running this country so what better way to divert
public attention from domestic problems that a little war? (2) Israel,
Sharon , and of course the Jewish Lobby were pushing Bush HARD, very hard to
overthrow Hussein. Remember
that Iraq was Israel's main enemy in the region and Saddam was paying $25K
to the families of Palestine men killed fighting the Zionist. He also
financed the Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iraq was not
a threat to the U.S., only to Israel. What Israel wants the U.S. Jewish
vote wants and Bush is an expert at vote chasing. Most in his Cabinet were
also pro-Israel for this reason. Sharon made several trips here to consult
(or was that direct)with Bush right before the invasion. Now Sharon is
pushing Bush on "dealing" with Iran for the same reason. As the French
Ambassador once said, that ***** of a little country (Israel) will get us
into another World war.
I have spent much time in the Middle East and Asia Sub-Continent, around 30
trips over the years and know first hand that a Jeffersonian Democracy in
the Middle East is doomed to failure from the start. These people don't
think like Europeans (Westerners), they have different values and their
allegiances lies with Family, Tribe, Religion, and way down the line,
Country in that order. The Mullahs have traditionally controlled internal
local politics and they whip up religious fervor to prevent and challenge to
their authority. Religion, as always will be a big stumbling block to bring
a change in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. We don't need to force our form
of government down their throats, we need to force Israel to return the
lands that they stole from the Palestine in the '67 war, allow the
Palestinians to have a country with the firm understanding if they don't
become good neighbors and honor international law they can lose their land
for good. We just need a leader with enough backbone and integrity to make
a firm stand and do what's right. I don't know of such a person
unfortunally.
