Why There's No Design #113 |
Over at Science blogs, John Lynch (Stranger Fruit) discusses the
"Catfish from Hell":

"...Horrific stuff ... but perhaps a tad hyperbolic when you consider
that recent investigations "could find no candiru allegedly removed
from a human urogenital or rectal orifice preserved in a reputable
museum, hospital, or academy for scientific identification" and that
there has been only one confirmed candiru "attack" on humans..."
No, the real hell is for the other fish upon which this parasitic
catfish preys:
Candiru, the parasitic catfish enters "the gill cavity of larger fish
to suck blood ... Forces itself under the gill cover of host fish to
enter gill chamber during ventilation of the latter. Bites mostly at
the ventral or dorsal aorta arteries, and the blood is pumped into its
gut by the host's blood pressure. It does not need any special sucking
or pumping mechanism to quickly engorge itself with blood, but simply
uses its needle-like teeth to make an incision in an artery."
Now the so-called Holy Bible tells us that its god is love (I Joh
4:8). It also tells us that this god made fish and "saw that it was
good" (Gen 1:21).
So between this and evolution, you either have to believe either that
the parasitic catfish evolved, or that a loving god deliberately
created a system whereby a tiny fish bites into arteries of unwilling
larger fish and gets a free nutritional ride from its helpless prey.
Is this what a loving god would create - a world were the strong prey
on the weak, the the young, the old, the infirm, where sneakiness,
thievery, freeloading and cruelty is not the exception but the rule?
Is that the moral lesson we're to learn from the "creation"?
Or is there no design, just evolution?

I actually had a JW tell me that nothing like this existed until Eve ate
that fruit. I had asked why the tiger so cruelly and brutally killed it's
prey. She said that tigers, lions and wolves ate grass before the fall of
man. So this parasitic catfish would have been living on ... what? Seaweed
until man fell? Can you see how irrational these people are?

demonstrating this transition!

The world is full of nasty parasites. Many do prey on humans. The worst
of these are called relgions.
