Coturnix atwww.scienceblogs.com/clockreports on discoveries related
to the sleeping habits of whales. Very interesting.
"...the whale is a diurnal animal - awake and active during the day,
while resting and sleeping during the night."
and
"Furthermore, the whale sometimes slept with both eyes open, sometimes
with one eye open (like a dolphin or a duck, indicating that one brain
hemisphere is asleep and other one awake), and sometimes with both
eyes closed."
Why would a designer do this? The organism spends its entire life in
the ocean. It has to give live birth and it has to dive deep to catch
food. Why design it to breathe air? Why not give it gills? Why make
it feed its young exactly like all other mammals do?
And why on Earth would it be diurnal? At the depths it catches its
food, there is no day and night. It's always night.
But the interesting issue here is that at least some cetaceans (and
even ducks) can turn off half of their brain at a time. They
essentially never need to become unconscious for eight hours every
night.
How much could humans accomplish if they never had to pass out?
What's the purpose of sleep? Why the *need*? Evolutionists can
answer this question without any effort - and support their answer.
Design proponents cannot.
So what's more likely? Did some intelligent divine designer who had
all eternity in which to work and infinite resources at his command
screw up by making whales need to breath air? Did he simply love to
torment creatures by creating them for one element and then
imprisoning them in another?
Or did undirected evolution do all the "creation"?
