"We report the draft genome of the black cottonwood tree, Populus
trichocarpa. Integration of shotgun sequence assembly with genetic
mapping enabled chromosome-scale reconstruction of the genome. More
than 45,000 putative protein-coding genes were identified. Analysis of
the assembled genome revealed a whole-genome duplication event; about
8000 pairs of duplicated genes from that event survived in the Populus
genome. A second, older duplication event is indistinguishably
coincident with the divergence of the Populus and Arabidopsis
lineages."
If this isn't evidence of evolution, I don't know what is. A whole
genome duplication! Every one of those duplicated genes was then
available to mutate and provide new genetic information in the genome
without risking any existing function.
45,000 genes - twice as many as humans have in a genome one-sixth the
size humans have. And it's related to tobacco plants as well as
sharing genes with humans!
So where is the design here? Where is the design in a *tree* needing
at least as many genes as we have? Where's the design in a genome so
badly designed that it can simply duplicate for no reason at all?
Where is the design in a tree having less junk than we do in our
genome? Was the tree better designed than we humans? Or did a creator
god simply do a lousy job on humans?
Or is there no designer whatsoever and what we see here is as close as
you can get in the scientific world to absolute proof of evolution?

Considering the death rate of women during labor and complications following
childbirth, he clearly did a lousy job on humans.
