It's "tough love". Very, very tough indeed, apparently....

You lunatics need to get your stories straight, otherwise you might
look like idiots. Why don't you and Duke sort out exactly what Hell is
(apparently Duke thinks atheists will be "bending over" a lot), where
it is, and then get back to us with why we might need it.

Buggered if you don't, too, in Duke's world.
I also wonder, if Hell is supposed to be punishment, if people that
enjoy anal sex would go to Heaven as punishment, because there they
would be deprived of it?If this is the case, Heaven would be filled
with all sorts of people that Christians hate, then the Christians
would have to vacate to Hell to get away from them, as there is no
other place for them to go. Therefore Heaven would be filled with
sinners and Hell would be filled with Christians. I love theology.

Snip alt.society.liberalism, which was inexplicably included in a post

Considering hell to be "seperation from God" hardly changes the fact
that it's intended to be eternal torment. Wouldn't you think a merciful
god would let those of us that fail the test another chance or perhaps
even just let us cease to exist, rather than TORMENT US FOR ETERNITY?
Face it. No matter how theologically necessary you think hell is, no
matter what definition you choose to give it, infinite punishment for
finite crimes is an immoral doctrine that contradicts the supposed
benevolence of "God".

Considering hell to be "seperation from God" hardly changes the fact
that it's intended to be eternal torment.

And of course begs the question as to why atheists and others who are
currently separated from God don't suffer the pains of Hell here and
now.

Wouldn't you think a merciful
god would let those of us that fail the test another chance or perhaps
even just let us cease to exist, rather than TORMENT US FOR ETERNITY?

And of course the moral case is far worse than that when one considers
that this omniscient God has know from Eternity that there are some
people who would be born into lives of unremitting suffering, die
terrible deaths and end up consigned to Hell, but never-the-less
permits the creation of these people.

Face it. No matter how theologically necessary you think hell is, no
matter what definition you choose to give it, infinite punishment for
finite crimes is an immoral doctrine that contradicts the supposed
benevolence of "God".

Quite so.

Beyond that, omniscience contradicts any choice we have in the matter,
so we have no moral culpability. Whether God knew all along he was
going to damn us, the fact that he does when we cannot be held
responsible is a whole other can of worms.
