WILL alt.religion.christian BE DISBANDED ? |
After the disaster of the failed biblical prophesy of 6/6/6 then it seems
pointless to have a alt.religion.christian group any more. I expect all the
christians in the world feel rather tricked that JC didn't come riding down
from the clouds on a golden horse and take them up to paradise. But at
least the argument as to whether christianity is a complete crock of *****
has been cleared up once and for all.

What a clever and original thought. I'm certain nobody was smart enough to
think of it the other 19 times the date has bee 6/6/6. You're *so* clever.

What hypocrisy.
The sentence directly below, you idiot.
All your careful analysis below, and you fail to realize that one example
does not a misogynist make.
You complain about my generalizations, and then make a generalization.
You attack women for being women.
WTF? Where! Oh, yeah, that's right, if I insult one woman for being
irrational, then I must be insulting ALL women for being irrational.
No.
You could have admitted it was
wrong. Instead you attack me for pointing it out.
No, I attack you for lying about what I say.
You do put the anal in analysis, though.
Sorry if evidence bothers you.
The evidence of your abject stupidity IS rather gross and obvious. And yes,
it does bother me.
Other than that, though, I fail to see the relevance.
The relevance was that a Christian thought 666 was a date.
*A* Christian. And what do we call people who assert that all members
of a group share the quality of one of them? Big something or other, I
think.
Well, don't you all ascribe to the same big rule book? Don't you all call
yourselves Christians? What good is a label if you can't draw a
generalization from it? That's what labels are for.
You had claimed
above that people would think a particular idea because they were
Christians
And that one did.
That *one*. So?
So a Christian insists that having a baby on the date 06/06/06 runs the risk
of birthing the antichrist. Not being a Christian, I'm in no position to
contradict that that is what Christians believe. I have to assume all
Christians agree.
(even though the idea contradict the Christian Bible).
It's not my job to police your interpretations.
It seems to be your job to tell people what they think, you do it
frequently.
No. I do make generalizations based on what Christians tell me they believe.
Not being a Christian myself, I'm in no position to contradict what they say
Christians believe.
Of course, then another Christian comes along, like you, and says no, that's
not what Christians believe. They believe this other thing.
Then, of course, another Christian comes along and says no, what that Matt
fellow said was wrong. Christians don't believe that, they believe this
other other thing.
What's an objective observer to do?
The Bible say that the number is a man, that someone then
says it is a date is not particularly impressive.
Whine to them. I'm only reacting to what Christians apparently believe.
Now
You implied that all Christians are stupid.
Or that all Christians are irrational. That's a fact.

Can't come up with an argument, eh?
Now you change that to one

I

didn't come riding down from the clouds on a golden horse and take
them up to paradise. But at least the argument as to whether
christianity is a complete crock of ***** has been cleared up once

for all.
What a clever and original thought. I'm certain nobody was smart
enough
to
think of it the other 19 times the date has bee 6/6/6. You're *so*
clever.
Since 666 is not a date why would anyone have thought of it at any
time?
Because they're Christians. Why else?
Ah, of course, the argument that all Christians are blither idiots.
You are, of course, smarter than all of them. Smarter than Dr. King.
Smarter than Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Smarter than Thaddeus
Dobzhansky.
I'm smarter than the stupid Christian ***** that induced early labor to
avoid any chance of having her baby on that non-date you're talking
about.
So you add misogyny to your repertoire. Impressive to some I am sure.
And you maintain your hypocrisy.
No, by using "*****" as an attack.
[snip]
Other than that, though, I fail to see the relevance.
The relevance was that a Christian thought 666 was a date.
*A* Christian. And what do we call people who assert that all members
of a group share the quality of one of them? Big something or other, I
think.
Well, don't you all ascribe to the same big rule book?
Who does the "you" refer to?
Don't you all call
yourselves Christians?
Where have you seen me call myself a Christian?
What good is a label if you can't draw a
generalization from it? That's what labels are for.
Let me see if I get this straight. I am not going to bother to look
this up, but aren't you one of the people who get all huffy if someone
says something about atheists? Someone who complains that the only
factor in common is a disbelief in God? If I am wrong, fine. But if
you are one of those people you might want to consider that
inconsistency.
Either way, drawing unwarranted generalizations is called prejudice.
If you are going to assert a quality to a group you have the burden of
demonstrating it with evidence.
No, you don't have to assume that. You do have the ability to read and
learn. You choose bigotry and ignorance over knowledge. Generalizing
from one person to millions of people is rather astounding.
(even though the idea contradict the Christian Bible).
It's not my job to police your interpretations.
It seems to be your job to tell people what they think, you do it
frequently.
No. I do make generalizations based on what Christians tell me they believe.
You make generalizations of what all Christians believe based on what
one out-lier (and you know she is an out-lier since it got press
coverage) said.
Not being a Christian myself, I'm in no position to contradict what they say
Christians believe.
Really? I can discuss Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Atheism, etc.
without being a member of all of those groups. I know that concept
have confused you, but it really is possible.
Of course, then another Christian comes along, like you,
Care to provide evidence for your claims?
and says no, that's
not what Christians believe. They believe this other thing.
Or, OMG, there is a variety of views on subjects. I would kind of
hope you could understand the difference between doctrine and personal
views. You do, however, seem to have a problem with understanding the
views of other people.
Then, of course, another Christian comes along and says no, what that Matt
fellow said was wrong. Christians don't believe that, they believe this
other other thing.
And so there is a variety of opinion. As among just about any group.
There are key views and less important views.
What's an objective observer to do?
Study what is interesting, get as much evidence as possible, and make
their best tentative decision. Or they could take your path, get one
data point and generalize to the entire set.
The Bible say that the number is a man, that someone then
says it is a date is not particularly impressive.
Whine to them. I'm only reacting to what Christians apparently believe.
No, you are not and you know you are not.
Now
You implied that all Christians are stupid.
Or that all Christians are irrational. That's a fact.
I offer Thaddeus Dobzhansky again as an example for you to discuss.
Can't come up with an argument, eh?
A counter example is an argument. It is that evidence thing.
Now you change that to one
Christian being stupid and you have not shown a connection between the
religion and intelligence.
Faith is the direct connection between religion and irrationality.
Thaddeus Dobzhansky.
Blurting out random names is hardly an argument.
ROTFLMAO. It is not a random name, it is a name pick for very specific

generalization from it? That's what labels are for.
Let me see if I get this straight. I am not going to bother to look
this up, but aren't you one of the people who get all huffy if someone
says something about atheists?
Yeah. We don't have a single unifying rule book. We only have a definition,
one who disbelieves in gods. That's it. That's all we claim.
The people who I get huffy about make unjustified claims about atheists.
Someone who complains that the only
factor in common is a disbelief in God? If I am wrong, fine. But if
you are one of those people you might want to consider that
inconsistency.
What inconsistency? Disbelief in gods is the case with every atheist. It's
the definition. It's a description.
That's why atheist is not a capitalized word, but Christian is.
Either way, drawing unwarranted generalizations is called prejudice.
But they're not unwarrented. I didn't just make up my assumptions about
Christians, the Christians TOLD me what to assume about Christians.
If you are going to assert a quality to a group you have the burden of
demonstrating it with evidence.
What constitutes evidence of that other than members of that group asserting
that the quality is universal to that group? THEY'RE the ones making the
claim about their group, I'm just agreeing with what they claim they
believe.
Would you rather I just arbitrarily contradict everything a Christian says
about Christianity?
You had claimed
above that people would think a particular idea because they were
Christians
And that one did.
That *one*. So?
So a Christian insists that having a baby on the date 06/06/06 runs the
risk
of birthing the antichrist. Not being a Christian, I'm in no position to
contradict that that is what Christians believe. I have to assume all
Christians agree.
No, you don't have to assume that.
So what do I assume in it's place? Are you granting me the authority to
decree what is Christian doctrine and what's not? Are you sure you want to
do that?
You do have the ability to read and
learn.
How can I learn if what one Christian says about Christianity is immediately
contradicted by the next Christian? For there to be knoledge, there has to
be consistency.
You choose bigotry and ignorance over knowledge.
Knowledge of Christianity is impossible if every Christian has a different
story.
Generalizing
from one person to millions of people is rather astounding.
Ah, so are you suggesting that argumentum ad populum is valid for
determining Christian doctrine? Are the supposed god's words subject to
vote?
(even though the idea contradict the Christian Bible).
It's not my job to police your interpretations.
It seems to be your job to tell people what they think, you do it

No. I do make generalizations based on what Christians tell me they

Well, I don't hear the outcry against her heresy. What am I to make of such
tacit silence?
Not being a Christian myself, I'm in no position to contradict what they

Really? I can discuss Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Atheism, etc.
without being a member of all of those groups. I know that concept

you complaining that I was guilty of doing that?
Yes, I can discuss those things too, but I don't have the gall to claim they
don't believe what they say they believe.
Of course, then another Christian comes along, like you,
Care to provide evidence for your claims?
Already admitted that incorrect assumption.
and says no, that's
not what Christians believe. They believe this other thing.
Or, OMG, there is a variety of views on subjects. I would kind of
hope you could understand the difference between doctrine and personal
views. You do, however, seem to have a problem with understanding the
views of other people.
It seems that what you are saying is that the label Christian means exactly
nothing. It says absolutely nothing about the beliefs of the person so
labeled, and you can make no assumptions whatsoever about them.
If that's the case, what is the point of the label?
Then, of course, another Christian comes along and says no, what that Matt
fellow said was wrong. Christians don't believe that, they believe this
other other thing.
And so there is a variety of opinion. As among just about any group.
There are key views and less important views.
Basically, the only universal view in Christianity that I've been able to
determine is that a guy named Jesus existed.
That's it? That's all? That's all Christian means? Christians can't decide
on anything else, like Jesus's divinity, salvation, heaven, hell, god, etc.
Just that a guy named Jesus existed. Whoop de frickin' doo!
So, if I assume that Christians believe a guy named Jesus existed, would
that be a justified assumption? Would you be happy with that, and stop your
fucking whining?
What's an objective observer to do?
Study what is interesting, get as much evidence as possible, and make
their best tentative decision.
The best tentative decision is that Christianity is making ***** up because
it can't keep its story straight.
Or they could take your path, get one
data point and generalize to the entire set.
Christians say this, Christians say that, Christians say another thing, but
the one thing they all have in common is they think they're right and the
others are wrong.
On what basis do I contradict them?
The Bible say that the number is a man, that someone then
says it is a date is not particularly impressive.
Whine to them. I'm only reacting to what Christians apparently believe.
No, you are not and you know you are not.
See how much telling another person what he believes helps the dialogue?
Not.
Now
You implied that all Christians are stupid.
Or that all Christians are irrational. That's a fact.
I offer Thaddeus Dobzhansky again as an example for you to discuss.

What a clever and original thought. I'm certain nobody was smart

You're *so* clever.
Since 666 is not a date why would anyone have thought of it at any

Not every Christian accepts the '666' stuff. Many a NT scholar has concluded
that Rev. 13:18 is a reference to 'Mr. Mark of the Beast' himself, the Roman
Emperor Nero (54-68 A.D.).
What I find fascinating is the Christian obsession with the book of
Revelation and the so-called 'prophecies' contained therein. I find it all
rather silly because it says in the very first verse that the prophesied
events would take place 'tachos' -- Greek for 'in the *immediate* future'.
The fact that all the members of the 'seven churches in Asia [Minor]' for
whose ears John's 'Book' was intended have been dead now for some 2000 years
counts for nothing, eh'?

I wouldn't be too proud of that if I was you. To God, a day is like a thousand
years. You're caught up is your present day mysticism.
You and I have no concept of what "tachos" would add up to.

Hmmm. I guess you got me there. So I guess when Jesus said that he would be
buried for 'three days and three nights' in Mt. 12:40, he was speaking in
terms of thousands of years, eh'? And 'John of Patmos' urgently sent those
letters to the leaders of the 'seven churches in Asia' because his 'message'
didn't apply to *them* but to people who would come into existence several
thousand years 'down the road', eh'?
I know this. Any Greek translator worth his 'salt' has noticed that the word
'tachos' implies an immediacy of action. (By the way, Paul also believed in
Jesus' return while he was still 'alive'. (I Thess. 4:15). I guess 'God' has
a problem with 'time', being the 'Almighty' and all.

Stop and look at what you have written. *You* maintain that 'God' shouldn't
have said 'immediate' future'. What proof do you have that 'God' *said*
anything? You guys are just playing 'make-believe' here and you oughta know
it. 'God' had nothing to do with Revelation 1:1. Some ancient Jew known to
us as 'John of Patmos' concocted the 'story' and it has since been proven to
be a well-meaning lie. He was, for all intents and purposes, completely
wrong about everything he said in that 'book'. Looking at the verse
objectively, one has to see it was directed to people who John was trying to
scare the Bejeebees out of. It probably did. Maybe even one or two of them
died of fright! But the contents of the Book of Revelation certainly wasn't
directed at modern man. It's time a lot of people grow up and get their
heads out of their *****. That stuff, like Hal Lindsday's 'Late Great Planet
Earth' flounders miserably when it comes to the truth. The stuff is just
plain-***** dumb. Oh, and if 'God' were to *really* exist, I sorta get the
feeling that he would talk to his 'creation' in a manner/language that we
would plainly understand -- not in koine Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic.

As idiotic as I think Christianity is, I honestly don't recall anything in
Bible prophecy, or even popular Christian prophecy, that says anything of
import was supposed to happen on 6/6/06.
