The fundamentalist "Christians" could become America's
Taliban. This is not a unique case; it has occured
throughout history. As the Christians and this nation
swing farther to the right, it will swing farther toward
the Islamic ideal. There is only a shade of a degree
between what the fundamentalist Christians advocate and
the radical Muslims advocate. As violent as radical
Muslim belief is, "Christians" who advocate stoning as a
punishment for blasphemy are close cousins. And they
occupy nearly the same part of the spectrum. Religion--
don't let it get too strong.
Religion is good if it strives toward greater humanity.
Religion is bad when it strives for tyranny. Because, as
religion moves toward tyranny, it will move toward power
and control. As it moves toward power and control, it
will move toward greed and corruption. Thus, you have the
beginning of a dictatorship. The same thing could be said
of the state when it gets too powerful. Religion and the
state are meant to be a system of checks and balances on
one another. Sadly, when one gets to much power, it leads
down the path to despotism.
We have been in a church centered paradigm now for about
5 years. But, what is troubling is the extreme far right,
the fundamentalist position. When you see scientific
theory being replaced with religion in the classrooms,
you are veering towards perilous imbalance.
The church should have ideological input into the affairs
of the state. Much like the Queen of England is to
parliment in the United Kingdom. The state should
consider the opinions of churches, but should not let
religion sway decisions of public policy in an enveloping
manner. This is because the state represents a more
diverse body, with much more diverse interests. The more
diverse the interests of the state are, the more
objective it can remain; and the populace will live more
harmoniously.
As history has proven, the interest of the church is too
microcosmic to convey any sort of civility, much less
peace. The interest of the church is too open to
corruption, or the prejudices of it's subset of members.
It only makes sense that the government should lead in as
unbiased a way as possilbe. The larger the base of the
social conscience the better; and that logic favors the
state.

The terrorist mission of Jesus stated in the Christian bible:
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not so send
peace, but a sword.
"For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the
daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in
law.
"And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
