universe has always existed *in some form*. I did not mention the Big

It may well be. One theory, which has a certain amount of interesting
data to support it, is that the universe expands and contracts
cyclically. What we call the "Big Bang" may well just be the latest
point of expansion. The universe would still exist in it's contracted
state.
Another interesting idea, which also has some data to support it, is
that our universe is one of an infinite number of universes.
Which, if either, theory will ultimately prove to be factual is not
known at this time. However, there's no data to support the notion
that the universe needed a god to create it.
Indeed, there are many problems with thinking that a super-being
exists "outside" (i.e., independent of) the universe. Where, then,
does this putative super-being exist? How long did it exist before it
decided to create the universe? What was it doing before that? Why
did it need to create a universe?
The simplest and most parsimonious explanation, and the one that is
supported by current data, is that the universe is un-created, but has
always existed in some form. That's the one I'll go with. If you
need to believe in impossible super-beings, then that's your
superstition, and it's your problem.

It strikes me that these islamic missionaries are just like the
christian fundies I grew up with, except that they don't have even the
average christer's grasp of English (and we all know how minimal that
is). It's the same deal: they've been taught stock arguments, to
which they expect certain stock answers. When they don't get those
answers, but instead get a reasoned response based on evidence and
logic, they lose it.
